No, the likely reason is that her 1993 speech came out ---you know W has no time for people who deceive him!I think W really thought that Miers was a true conservative. He's known her for a while, and she had done good work for him. But I really feel sorry for the person who vetted Miers for the Court. I am pretty confident that the President had no clue about that speech.

I agree--the person who vetted her was her immediate subordinate. He was put in an impossible position.

But I really feel sorry for the person who vetted Miers for the Court. I think it was herself.
If she was picked because chuckie.S's brownshirts blackmailed a halfdozen more qualified jurists away form the SCOTUS, then she volunteered to illustrate that the SCOTUS is too important for "B" team nominees.
I give you justices Kennedy and Powell as exibit "A" of such 2nd-stringers.

the person who vetted Miers for the Court
I think that was the problem: she wasn't vetted. It was cronyism, pure and simple. GW 'knew' her for years, so she was not subjected to a vetting process before she was named.

Wasn't she the person vetting all the candidates?
You might be on to something. Maybe he didn't know about it.

But I really feel sorry for the person who vetted Miers for the Court. Why feel sorry for THAT person? That person should be hammered for any contribution made on behalf of Miers...was it Andy Card? If so, shame on him! IMHO, Miers should have declined the President from the get-go.
