Remember, we all share the same goal of putting originalists on the SCOTUS. If the President now nominates an originalist that is accepted by conservative pundits, they will quite happily support such a nominee. Perhaps his biggest mistake in the Miers nomination was that he put forward a candidate with no serious supporters, unlike Roberts who had almost universal support from people that matter.
I think that is overly optimistic. Some of us seem to have other agendas entirely.
