Pacific Ocean (Oct. 25, 2005) - Aviation Boatswain Mate 2nd Class Paul Young directs an F/A-18E Super Hornet, assigned to the “Royal Maces” of Strike Fighter Squadron Two Seven (VFA-27), aboard the conventionally powered aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). While at sea, Kitty Hawk and Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG-5) will participate in an annual exercise with the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force. Souda Bay, Crete, Greece (Oct. 25, 2005) - The guided missile destroyer USS Mitscher (DDG 57) arrives at Souda Bay’s Marathi NATO Pier Facility for a routine port visit on the Greek island of Crete. Mitscher deployed from her homeport of Norfolk, Va., in May and is currently engaged in Operation Active Endeavor, establishing a presence in the Mediterranean and patrolling merchant traffic to prevent terrorism and illegal activities. San Diego (Oct. 22, 2005) - A member of the Navy League Sea Cadet Corps (NLCC) stands an uniform inspection during the 2005 U.S. NLCC Flagship Competition at Naval Amphibious Base (NAB) Coronado.
