JERUSALEM : Israel urged Iran's ouster from the United Nations and said it posed a "clear and present danger", after the Islamic republic's hardline president called Wednesday for the Jewish state to wiped off the map.
"This call contravenes the United Nations charter and is tantamount to a crime against humanity," said Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres.
"We must submit a clearcut request to the UN secretary general (Kofi Annan) and the Security Council to obtain Iran's expulsion from the United Nations," he wrote in an open letter to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
"It is inconceivable for a man calling for genocide to be at the head of a member country of the United Nations," said Peres.
Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, speaking at a joint press conference with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, said it was clear that Iran was trying to develop an atomic weapons capability.
"Israel belives that Iran is very close to developing a nuclear bomb. And we think that the Iranians are trying to buy time," Shalom said, describing the Islamic republic as "a clear and present danger".
"That is why all parties should be very determined to move the Iranian file to the (UN) Security Council, otherwise Iran will continue to develop nuclear bombs."

Israel: Remove Iran from U.N
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3159945,00.html
Israel calls for Iran's removal from U.N. following Iranian president's statement regarding the destruction of Israel; accuses Iran of advocating genocide. Worldwide condemnations of Iran ensue
Ronny Sofer
Danny Gillerman, Israels Ambassador to the U.N., demanded that the U.N. remove Iran from the organization, following Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's declaration Wednesday that Israel should be 'wiped off the map."
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon instructed the Foreign Ministry to activate Gillerman.
The PM has been urged to respond by Vice Premier Shimon Peres, who wrote in a letter to Sharon and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom that "It is unacceptable that the leader of a state member of the U.N. advocates genocide." .
"This call goes against the U.N.'s treaty and constitutes a crime against humanity," Peres wrote.
"The words of the Iranian president are especially severe in light of Iran's attempts to develop nuclear arms and obtain long-range missiles. Israel must unequivocally demand of the U.N. and the security Council that Iran be removed from the organization," he wrote.
If Iran did try to destroy Isreal, the Europeans would just sit on their hands and watch. They wouldn't want to get "involved". And when mini Fallujah's suddenly appear all over the Continent they will say it's just a wonderful expression of "multiculturalism".
Well--I don't really see the point of removal of Iran from UN--the discredited and morally bankrupt organization anyway. I'd rather see the Iranian nuclear weapon capabilities removed.
War is inevitable. I say with in the next 6 months.
