Many adults in the United States believe Republican Rudy Giuliani should launch a White House bid, according to a poll by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. 54 per cent of respondents would like the former New York City major to run for president in 2008.
Republican Arizona senator John McCain is second on the list of prospective candidates with 52 per cent, followed by Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton with 48 per cent, and former North Carolina senator and 2004 Democratic vice-presidential nominee John Edwards with 47 per cent.
Less than 40 per cent of respondents support bids by Massachusetts senator and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, and U.S. state secretary Condoleezza Rice.
Giuliani garnered national and international attention in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The former New York City mayor currently heads Giuliani Partners, LLCa consulting firm.
In an Oct. 5 speech to business leaders, Giuliani opened the door for a possible White House bid, saying, "I think Ill return to politics."

I heard that there is a split with the new SC Republicans upset with the old guard from the 2000 race over the "smear" campign (Through ok with McCain phonebanks calling voters 9 times after midnight the day before the election reminding voters to vote bush.)
The line I just drew. The line that separates pro-lifers from pro-choicers.
>>>>If Rudy comes out in opposition of abortion, you wouldn't vote for him?
Every time Rudi's on with Hannity, Sean asks him, any chance of you beconing a pro-lifer? And every time Rudi says, no. If he came out and said I'm a pro-lifer, I'd have to call him a liar.
THAT'S NOT THE REASON! Giuliani gave his endorsement to Cuomo because he thought Pataki was not Tough enough and too Independent. Of couse personally I think it was a dumb move but later on he endorsed Pataki and that is when Cuomo's sun Andrew went after Giuliani.
This seems to be the problem with the GOP in congress. These repub. senators act like they dont know what they are doing while in power. One of the reasons they have been so scared to use the nuclear option IMHO.
Did you really just say out loud that you think a strong pro-abortion woman is going to vote for anyone but Hillary?
...I don't believe that Guilliani will sell in the conservative South......
You may be correct but he has something no one else on the list has genuine charisma. if he hits the stump and lets it all hang out he might suprise you.
At present I have no choice.
Agreed. Being the party in opposition is a much easier job than actually taking the reins.
There are lots of pro-choice women who dislike hilary but who distrust strong social conservatives. Lots of people want to see abortion restricted but not totally illegal; very few are strongly pro abortion or for pb abortion, like Hilary.
A) Condi says she's not running, unlike McCain -- why rip the Sec State just because some of her fanboys float her name? If she became a serious candidate that would change.
B) McCain has a documented history of attacking/sabotaging conservatism; Condi does not.
I know this is going to surprise most on FR, but millions of Americans vote based on other issues than just abortion. Economic issues and Foreign policy are much more important to many Republicans. While abortion is an important issue and is wrong, it is not the end all.
Yea, but what does Pukin' Dog say?
Well said. That's what I saw during this last election. People who were pro-choice but also anti-terrorism found the latter to be a bigger issue.
They are her base.
LOL!
His voting record doesnt show that
Isn't George Allen tied for the lead on tradesports.com?
I'm sure you know that people understand that already, but your gratuitous attack is noted.
Economic issues and Foreign policy are much more important to many Republicans.
Sure .... what's the difference between Rudy and Hillary on those? Gonna be hard to draw a clear line. Meanwhile you have to operate without a base of support because you've just told religious conservatives to F off, and probably driven many of them into voting for Hillary because abortion and gays (not to mention guns!!!!!) are off the table and the only thing left is 'social justice', the Democrats' playground.
I seem to remember that McCain voted for McCain-Feingold. Anyone have the roll call on that?
McCain votes right on many issues, but on the ones where he's really needed he's guaranteed to be there -- plunging a knife into a conservative's back.
