"Pomona running short of money?"

Doesn't look like they collected much with this little adventure.

They're all from google. I won't post any more. I've made my point and I don't want to hog bandwidth/slow page loading.

Maybe they're being detained without probable cause at roadblocks?

Yea, a .2% success rate is something to be proud of. - wow that is low; we must be a country of law abiding citizens, I would have thought much higher.

Great results and I approve of such things as long as they are done at times when people are NOT going to work.

New twist on a speed trap.....both are designed to enrich the city's wallet (as does letting illegals work for chump change).

Wow. What a gold mine for the City of Pomona. Impounds cost the accused 25 to 75 dollars per day for storage, plus tow charges, plus administrative fees paid to the city, plus satisfying the fine or other charges. There is usually a city-favored tow company involved, which gets to keep a lot of the money.

This can be prohibitive for some people if it sits in the impound lot for more than a couple of days. Much of the time the people who lose their cars this way are druggies and nobody gets upset when druggies lose their cars. Those that keep their cars after such an event probably end up incurring a major hit on the old bank account. Unclaimed cars are auctioned off, with the proceeds going to satisfy the myriad charges, and supposedly the balance refunded to the erstwhile owner(s). It doesn't matter if the person driving when stopped is the owner of the car or not. The owner will pay at least the towing cost and storage charges and administrative fees.

I believe this is the same as depriving one of property without due process. The cash that you pay to get your car back is property, and the excessive costs are deprivation, and the fact that they can do that by setting up a checkpoint is without due process. It sucks.

In the Kansas City area a few years ago we had the police set up some sobriety checkpoints on the main feeder roads just off the main interstate loop that serves Arrowhead Stadium. It just happened to coincide with the end of a Chief's game. LOL...you want to talk about a traffic jam.
