I love your area it is so high up and picturesque, and you are close enough to commute to Orlando or Disney. My elderly friend vacated her Mobile Home and is staying up in Mt Dora with a friend.

I talked to my niece in Weston about 10 minutes ago. They have been without electricity sine 4:30AM. Phone service is down but was able to get them on their cell phones. It's blowing hard. The cats are antsy, to say the least.

AS always, thanks for the pings and running the thread. Have not posted much; don't have anything to say.

Hoping she speeds across Fla and sets out to sea

I am praying for all you folks in Florida. You were there for us during Rita and I hope you get relief soon.

I've had peak gusts of perhaps 70, still gusting up in the 50s at this time. The temperature is falling rapidly, and the worst is over here.

As noted earlier, a friend in PGI called and told me his pool screen cage failed. He said it blew around 80 over there at times. We're both just guessing, but have been through a few of these.

A partially completed structure would be vulnerable. Anything dried in and completed structurally would not be damaged by this storm very much, unless hit by flying debris.

My shed buildings stayed put, but some might not in this area.

Up a few miles near Nocatee is the new Super Mega Lo Mart distribution center. It's just across the line in DeSoto County, causing the geezers here who see nothing but a train of Wal Mart trucks all day long to complain about wear and tear on our roads. Meanwhile, plenty of our county residents now have good jobs up there.

Matthew just called again. He is with friends on N. Roosevelt and said that the water is almost up to hip deep and getting deeper. Tried to get my brother the Sheriff on his cell and couldn't get him.

Trace Gallagher on Fox is in West Palm and getting hit HARD by 100 mph winds. Looks pretty rough there. Fox says it's worse just south of there. Ft Myers doesn't look as bad now...power out..winds decreasing but some 70 mph gusts. Key West showing a guy rowing a boat in the street in front of Sloppy Joes.

Thank you.

Just spoke with my mother in Stuart (Martin County). The eyewall is just about there. Electricity is out. Sustained winds exceeding hurricane strength now.

Well in that case, if you do hear something scratching at the door, don't let it in.

I have the out-laws in Sebring, and when we go to visit, we cut across 17 to Arcadia.
We've been watching that thing go up & I've made all kinds of guesses about what it was.

I was wrong on all of them......Thanks for the info

Finally dragged my rearend out of bed. Very brief power outage a little while ago but I don't anticipate anything major happening up here.

Cold front made it through. Very, very weird to be watching a hurricane go by and it's cold outside.

GOOD NEWS!!!! Just got a call from my parents on Marco Island. They are safe and the house, built post-Andrew, seems to be in one piece. My folks said they spent the early morning hours hunkered down in a closet with the dog. They were quick to say that they would NEVER try to ride out a hurricane again, so I guess some good came of all this. Everyone, thanks so much for your prayers and concern. Now, it's time to focus on those whose status is unknown.

One of the FOX guys was saying a little while ago that they had a visit from a baby snake, not poisonous, in their hotel/motel room. They'd left their room door open to accomodate some cables and the little guy just slithered in. Don't know what they did with him, though.
