There's a new fad of students -- mostly girls -- wearing pajama bottoms to school, and so far administrators are not making a fuss about it.
"Some days you don't want to get dressed up for school. Like when it's raining and cold. You just want to be cozy," said Ben Lomond High School junior Elvia Escalante, 16.
School administrators in Ogden, Weber and Davis school districts say the pajamas have been modest and there hasn't been a problem.
"There are worse things a kid could wear to school," said Ross Lunceford, principal of Hillcrest Elementary School in Ogden.
"There's a fine line there, and I think sometimes we need to pick our battles. Should we get into a tussle over pajamas?" said Eileen Nicholas, student and family services teacher specialist for Ogden district.
Some students don't think much of the attire.
"They may be comfy, but it makes you look trashy and it gives you the idea you can just slack off for the day," said Ben Lomond High School senior Alena Marshall, 18.
Ditto for my middle daughter- she wore light- sweat type outfits to bed though so they weren't what we usually think of as pjs. Idea was the same though. She also got great grades and was well behaved. She mostly did it on days she did not feel real well, but didn't want to miss school. She did it once in a while just to have a comfy day. Now she is doing great in college, working part-time, very responsible young lady.
I admit the first time she did it- my reaction was: "WHAT are you thinking wearing pjs to school!!" Not something I would have dreamed of doing or my parents would have allowed. For whatever reason my oldest never did this, and so far my youngest hasn't either. Just a thing in some groups I think.
Thanks for the pix.
If a person wears flip flops to graduation, and to meet the President in the White House, wonder if any other event they'll ever attend will be important enough to wear shoes?
I think I've got that beat...we saw a McDonald's drive thru uhh...hostess...wearing a garbage bag (it was raining)...I guess McD's doesn't provide raincoats or something...
At least they're wearing clothes. I'm sick of chubby teen girls wearing belly shirts!! Ugh!
My kids ALWAYS wear underwear to school. Been doing that for years!
One day I was out doing errands around town. It was cold that day, so I donned my flannel shirt. At the end of the day I was pumping gas, and noticed the buttons were awful large on my flannel shirt. I remember thinking that I have some pajama bottoms that have buttons just like those. I yanked a jacket out of the car and put it on.
LOL.
And then you woke up from your nightmare, right?
As a kid, I had the usual dream about showing up to class in my underwear. Pajamas aren't that far from underwear.
Once again this proves my theory that we now live in the Supid Age.
;)
As a matter of fact, there are days (like today, rainy and yucky) when I don't want to get out of PJ's... or my cozy couch!
My next-door neighbor is from Egypt and he dresses casual; today he was mowing the lawn with sweat pants and t-shirt on - no shoes or socks.
Some people are rumored to be wearing their pajamas while posting.
My church is casual. My husband wouldn't go to church when he had to dress up. He'll go to our current church because you don't have to dress up.
I still dress up, and I dress up our kids because that is the way I was raised.
However, I would much rather someone come to church in shorts, than to have someone not attend church.
I live in California, and it is hard to get people to go to church out here.
My girls love PJ day because they can wear their robes, and they can take their teddy bears.
No. The Dept. of Education does not get into tussles over literacy and basic math and science skills. Hell, just turn it into a day care center.
I wore a jacket and tie to my private school, got a college level education in high school which set me up for college quite well. I work three months out of the year and make well into six figures. You.............well, just keep on wearing your pajamas.
I personally think the girls look nice. They do not look like the flimsy flip-flops that you would wear to the beach. It's just a style of shoe. It certainly beats them wearing high heals that are bad for their feet.
Our local Starbucks (California) has a vet working for them. My husband loves going their and talking with the guy about Iraq.
