But it's a very small storm. The eye is only 4 miles wide---and it extends about 16 miles out (each way I think)
I don't know where you're getting that info, but it's not right. Yes the eye is very tight and compact, but that is an indication of tremendous strength and the rest of the storm is already getting huge (hugh). The pressure drives these things and this is the lowest pressure ever in the Atlantic - even as it weakens before hitting Florida, it will be a gigantic storm.
Hopefully it will stay that way (do storms fluctuate in size very much?), and weaken, as people have said.
The gulf states have had enough this year. :(
