"Go back and look at the letters. They moved the Prom to the Friday night before graduation and said that did not work because the seniors showed up with alcohol still on their breath."

And they weren't allowed to graduate. Punishment enough for you?

"You have your head in the sand if you think the booze cruise was punished and they are still using this as an example for canceling prom."If they had punished the behavior the Prom would not need to be canceled."

They were punished...as soon as the school found out about it.

The reasons cited for cancelling the prom were many and varied. Perhaps you should re-read the letters. You don't seem to grasp the entirety of the situation.

History repeats itself.

"Canceling the prom is a band aid on a much larger problem that the school refuses to address.Their walk does not match their talk."

You sound extremely ignorant in light of the letters posted. They have addressed it.

What would you require? Burning the offending students at the stake?

"This is not Catholic bashing."

Oh no?

No mention of punishment any where in 2 letters posted. What about booze cruise

This is the final paragraph of one letter. It is obvious the school is severing itself from prom for liability reasons.Brother Kenneth in his own words says he is washing his hands of the problem. If he had a real backbone he would take steps to create a "school community" that embraced values education and not just sending their kids to a great private school at a cut rate price.

"Senior drinking parties will continue; three day bashes will continue in the
Hamptons; parents will continue to organize all these activities; a great deal of money
will be spent. The only difference is that Kellenberg Memorial High School will not be
part of that scene. That's all!
Father Philip K. Eichner, S.M.
President, KMHS Principal, KMHS
Brother Kenneth M. Hoagland, S.M."

Instead of blindly defending this because it is Catholic use your head.I wonder if this type of behavior would be tolerated at the Catholic School in California that fired the teacher for being a Planned Parenthood volunteer?

I can show you plenty of "Christian Schools" that have morphed into "good private schools" but still call themselves Christian.Their is not much that can be done about it because they receive no support from a church and are not affiliated. That is not the case here.
