Even though a sizable number of America's illegal immigrants are men who came into the country on their own without their wives or children, a large part of the country's illegal immigrant population lives in family settings, a newspaper reported Sunday. The Pew Hispanic Center, a nonpartisan research organization that estimated the country has 11 million illegal immigrants, says 2.3 million illegal immigrants are men who came without their families and the remaining 8.7 million are people living in family settings, The Arizona Republic reported.
Families, contrary to stereotypes, have long been a major part of the illegal immigrant population but never before has such a large number of them lived and worked illegally in the United States, the newspaper reported.
"It's (been) almost an overnight change," said Micah Bump, a researcher at Georgetown University's Institute for the Study of International Migration.
Nearly half of the illegal immigrant population is women, most are in married couples and many have children. Two-thirds of these children are U.S.-born citizens, Pew estimates. This means that, even though their parents could be deported, these children have the legal right to be here and obtain social services and welfare benefits.
Almost all illegal immigrant men are employed, according to Pew, while illegal immigrant women are more likely to stay home and raise children. What's more, the children are more likely to live in two-parent families.

So only 2.3 million are doing the jobs Americans are too good to do while another 8.7 million are just freeloading off the system and driving up the "without medical insurance" numbers for the DemocRATS?

You are so right. We are compassionately destroying this country by letting illegals come and set up families here.
What are these people going to do when we have a recession and there are fewer jobs? Commit crimes?

The word 'Compassion' is a misused, apologist, enabling word. It is used to reinforce the waste of Billions to the crime/corruption of Katrina restoration, it's used to justify the otherwise inexcusable acts of the many, etc., etc. etc. It's gotten so I almost get physically ill when I hear this word yet that's exactly what a person will be faced with when he suggests treating Illegals according to the Law.
Our smarmy Pols won't risk being called 'Uncompassionate' (Among other adjectives) so they do nothing, in the hope someone else will step up to the problem..
They'll go home and live like kings with all the money they been sucking out of the U.S. economy and sending to Mexico.
As a citizen of invaded California (illegal alien heaven), I disagree with the above statements, except for the one that illegal alien women stay home and raise (MANY, MANY) children. The illegal aliens and their children receive state aid and free medical care at our expense.
Many of these men have girlfriends/children here, and also have wives and more children in Mexico.
The men come, they bring their cousins and family members, the family goes on welfare and the dad works.
This is news? Bush misleads the American public--the illegal aliens are a NET DRAIN on our treasury and theft from taxpayers. For every one "workers", there are ten family members on welfare.
Real leaders guard the borders of their nation, Mr. Bush. You need to have a heart-to-heart talk with the leaders of Russia and China--they understand the importance of guarding their borders.
