Court won't let Temple Mount group lay 'cornerstone' of Third Temple
By Haaretz Service
The High Court of Justice on Sunday rejected a request by the Temple Mount Faithful to place what the organization said was the cornerstone of the Third Temple next to the Western Wall, Israel Radio reported.
The court also rejected a request by the group to visit the Temple Mount after 9 A.M. during the week-long Sukkot holiday, which begins Monday night. The organization says its goal is to build the Third Temple on the Temple Mount and to liberate the Temple Mount from "Arab occupation."
The justices said they feared clashes because Sukkot coincides this year with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which has become a time of increased attacks by suicide bombers in addition to being a month of fasting and introspection.

The court rejected the petitioner's contention that the ruling was a form of capitulation to terrorism, saying the verdict represented a balanced approach.
I have a question. Was the Post-Exilic Temple (of Ezra-Nehemiah's time) the same as Herod's Temple of Jesus time? I thought Herod's Temple was the third one, but I'm starting to think I'm wrong.
As a Christian I object to the Arab occupation or even presence on Temple Mount.
Sounds like a liberal ruling based on emotions.
A student told his professor he was going to "Palestine" to "fight for freedom, peace and justice,"Orwellian leftist code words that mean "murder Jews."
FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel/Russian Jewry ping list.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
May the Holy Temple be rebuilt immediately!
Herod merely repaired and refurbished the Second Temple built by Zerubavel (he built the Western Wall, I believe).
May the Third and Final Temple be built immediately!
The origional temple was built on what is called "Abraham's rock, which is now where the Muslims built their rock god mosk.
The stones of the western wall are called "Herod stones". They were designed and carved by Herod's architects.
While nothing is left of Herod's temple itself, some of this foundation wall is still in place. The western wall -- called the 'wailing wall' by the Jews -- is actually a part of this foundation platform. It had little to do with the temple itself, but because the muslims now firmly control the actual rock upon which the temple was constructed, the Jews today are resigned to this wall.
It is called the 'wailing' wall because of the intense remorse Jewish people associate with the loss of their temple and the rock of Abraham on which the temple was built -- two of the holiest shrines in the Jewish religion.
Both are gone -- the rock and the temple -- and, according to prophecy, they are gone forever because God gave them away. He left the Jewish nation only this wall -- a wall that has now become, in effect, the Jewish temple in absentia.
While Christians believe that Jesus is the true temple of God and that Peter is the actual 'rock' on which God's Church is built, the Jews still focus on the rock of Abraham. That is why the temple and the boulder on which it stood are so important to them.
So As a Christian, I don't know why you would hold this rock important, other than for the reason it doesn't belong to Muslims.
Scriptures says the temple will never be rebuilt.
Regarding the Wall, because of its importance to the Jews, when the day came for the restoration of Jerusalem in fulfillment of Joel's prophecies, one of the very first Jewish priorities was the repair and restoration of the wailing wall.
For several years, however, they could not get at it. The Palestinian Arabs who controlled this part of Jerusalem had built their houses right up to the wall, blocking many portions of it and severely limiting Jewish access to it.
After the six-day war in 1967 when the Jews finally gained control of this sector of Jerusalem, they pulled down those Palestinian houses and opened up a large square in front of the wall.
In his prophesy about the restoration of Jerusalem, Isaiah foresaw this event: "You counted the houses of Jerusalem, and you pulled down houses to strengthen the wall." (Is.22:10).
Isaiah's words warned the Jews that their rejoicing at this restoration was untimely, because it was leading to a day of panic and rout (Is.22:1-14), and that during this rout the walls of Jerusalem would be thrown down.
"For this, a day of panic and rout is from the Lord God Almighty. In the valley of Hinnom a wall is thrown down, they are shouting for help on the mountains. Persia takes up his quiver, Aram mounts his horse and Kir fetches out his shield. Your fairest valleys are filled with chariots and the horsemen take up positions at the gates; thus falls the defense of Judah." (Is.22:5-8).
Added support for Isaiah's warnings are clear in the prophecies of disaster which Jeremiah and Ezekiel announced would sweep the nation of Israel as the days of the End unfold.
These warnings are not veiled and they are uniquivocal. The defense of Judah is destined to crumble in the last days under the onslaught of Persian invaders.
The temple will never be re-built. Christ is the Temple, which Jews refuse to accept, and is also by design. In the end days prophacy says this veil will be lifted.
There is nothing in my scripture that says this. Are you into replacement theology?
"When Jesus predicted the destruction of the Jewish temple and all of its buildings in Jerusalem, his words came true within just 40 years. The Roman army in 70 A.D. pulled down every building and portico on the temple compound."
Yep. That temple was destroyed just as prophesied.
History is the reason. The area is of great importance to the Jews and I acknowdged and respect that fact.
Correction - Catholics believe that Peter is the rock. Many others, including this evangelical, believe He was referring to Himself.
Psalms 18:31 For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?
1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
Scriptures says the temple will never be rebuilt.
References please?
I don't feel qualified to offer a view on whether or not the Temple will be rebuilt or should be rebuilt. I don't find the various apocalyptic passages in the Bible at all easy to interpret with certainty. They refer to events that have already taken place, and they may or may not also shadow forth events yet to take place.
I agree that there is a regretable animus against religious Jews on the part of the judicial establishment in Israel, which is generally secular and leftist. They have found it easier to hand the Temple Mount over to Muslims, and to turn a blind eye when these Muslims undermine the Temple, threatening its collapse, or when they refuse to admit Jews to the Temple Mount, which now belongs to Israel.
Muslims have a long record of tearing down ancient churches, synagogues, and temples, and building mosques on the ruins. I am inclined to believe the historical accounts which say that the Jerusalem Mosque was not an especially holy place for Islam in earliest times, until the ruler of Jerusalem made up that story about Muhammed's footprints in order to make himself more important.
The Israeli authorities are terrified of an all-out religious war, and they try to avoid it by discriminating against Jews, because that is easier than risking offence to the Arabs.
Maybe the best solution will be if what many fear takes place, and the Mosque collapses because of all the excavation work done under it by the controlling Muslims, who are trying to destroy the remaining evidence of the Temple. No doubt the Arabs would immediately blame the Jews if it collapsed, and there would be an outbreak of violent rioting. But the Mosque would be gone, and good riddance to it. Besides, Muslims couldn't possibly hate or want to kill the Jews more than they already do.
If religious Jews succeed in rebuilding the Temple, I will watch with sympathy and interest. Presumably that would indicate that God favors it.
The Temple was rebuilt (by Ezra) after the return from Babylon...the second Temple.
Herod built the third, more grand and glorious than the first 2.
"This was given to the Apostle John on the isle of Patmos in 95 A.D., or 25 years after the 70 A.D. destruction of the Second Temple"
There is still much debate on the date of the writing of the Revelation of John. There are many indications that it was written before the A.D. 70 destruction of the Temple and not in A.D. 95 as you state.

has an interesting discussion about it.
Also on this thread it was hotly debated:
