LOL! Yeah. I said to the lady who was serving.........
This has sugar in it....
She replied, oh yes...... you have to know just when to add the sugar...
Like it was some closely guarded family secret.
LOL

Looks like it was taken in the same spot as mine.
I am stealing it.

Well, if you google, that is what pops up.

My ex-father-in-law witnessed one of his buddies putting on a pair of those high, lace up boots. The poor sob had laced them up for five minutes when the scorpion began to sting. It took him a couple of minutes to get the damn things off.Any damned tenderfoot who puts his boots on in Texas without first turning them upside down and bangin them around a bit DESERVES what happens next!

No the worst chili in the world is in the only Mexican Restaurant in Holland (1988). It's off the cheese market plaza in Alkmaar. If you go to the back of the plaza and cross the small bridge on the left it's half a block down on the right. You may prefer the long way around, it's a block longer but passes the whorehouse window show. In either case, the chili is really bad.

To be a real cowboy you'd have to be from Montana or Wyoming.

When you've been gone for weeks you take what you can get. The food was like a west coast Mexican restaurant with colored tortilla chips and too much avocado. I solved most of the problem by starting with 2 or 3 beers.

Also the San Jacinto Monument is taller than the Washington Monument and the Iwo Jima Monument at Harlengen, Tx.is taller than the one at Arlington National Cemetery plus it is the original statue sculpted by Felix De Weldon from which the one at Arlington National Cemetery was molded.
I was one(of three)of the safety escort that escorted ten 18 wheelers and one road crane from Warrick, RI and Providence, RI to the Marine Military Institute at Harlengen where it(original monument palletized)was reconstructed during 1981/1983 period.

Heck, I get leary of Mexican food anywhere north of San Antonio.
HC, how on earth did you ever find Mexican food in Holland? Especially with all the sightseeing you had to do.
You described the trip very well, now just how bad was the chili? We need a description so we can decide if Fiddlstix has to pass the 'worst chili story' trophy over to you or not.

I was attending a drilling school put on by Royal Dutch Shell and rebuilding some Smith International drilling motors.
The chili tasted like a bland, watery tomato soup to which a very small amount of fatty meat had been added along with celery and a couple of spices I could not ID.

It's not the snakes and scorpions that get ya, but those darn chiggers will eat you alive...
To: HoustonCurmudgeon
Oh gross...celery in chili!
I dunno...you might have to share the trophy with Fiddlstix. It's kind of a toss up as to which is worse.

My husband is a Texan who moved to California about 17 years ago, but to this day I hear how he missed Texas BBQ. As far as he is concerned, what we on the West coast call BBQ ain't the real thing!

You've got to have mesquite wood to have real BBQ.
I'm smoking drunk chickens with mesquite right now. Should be coming off the pit within the hour.
