Arkansas Mother Gives Birth to 16th Child By MELISSA NELSON, Associated Press Writer 8 minutes ago

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Michelle Duggar just delivered her 16th child, and she's already thinking about doing it again.

Johannah Faith Duggar was born at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and weighed 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces.

The baby's father, Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative, said Wednesday that mother and child were doing well.

He said Johannah's birth was especially exciting because it was the first time in eight years the family has had a girl.

Jim Bob Duggar, 40, said he and Michelle, 39, want more children.

"We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them," he said.

The Discovery Health Channel filmed Johannah's birth and plans to air a show about the family of 18 next May.

The Learning Channel is doing another show about the family's construction project, a 7,000-square foot house that should be finished before Christmas. The home, which the family has been building for two years, will have nine bathrooms, dormitory-style bedrooms for the girls and boys, a commercial kitchen, four washing machines and four dryers.

Jim Bob Duggar, who sells real estate, previously lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. He said he expects to run for the state Senate next year but isn't ready to make a formal announcement.

Michelle Duggar had her first child at age 21, four years after the couple married.

Their children include two sets of twins, and each child has a name beginning with the letter "J": Joshua, 17; John David, 15; Janna, 15; Jill, 14; Jessa, 12; Jinger, 11; Joseph, 10; Josiah, 9; Joy-Anna, 8; Jeremiah, 6; Jedidiah, 6; Jason, 5; James, 4; Justin, 2; and Jackson Levi, 1.

Maybe they are Republicans. We can use more GOP, they seem to be flying away daily with their angst against Miers.

I may get flamed for this...but I feel sorry for these kids. With all the "quality time" they'll get with these parents...they might as well be in an orphanage.

Actually they are very lucky. Having lots of siblings is a blessing. I don't remember spending alot of time with my parents nor wanting to, but I remember well the times with my brothers and sisters.

>> How much do they cost the tax payers? <<

Did I miss where it said that they were receiving welfare? These kids are your only hope of receiving a dime from social security. Oh, and don't worry about school taxes; they'll pay them when they grow up... even though they're probably homeschooled.

P.S.,

Dear Stu, is your last name, "Pidhead?"

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it-Genesis 1:28a And so they did. Think about this. What do you want to bet most these kids are going to vote Conservative? When was the last time you saw a big liberal family.

Some women love being pregnant because of the attention they receive.

I always had a fantasy of being pregnant (last trimester) during Christmas!!! Aside from the "no-rum-in-the-eggnog" thing, think of all that eating you do!!!

My Aunt had sixteen children in eighteen years with no multiple births. Her seventeenth was stillborn and she had to have an emergency hysterectomy. The whole family was sad that there would never be another baby in the home.

Oh and the children were all home at the same time. They did not have nine bedrooms, but two dormitory rooms for each sex. They had one washer and one car; no dishwasher or dryer. In fact, when they all went somewhere together, it had to be in two separate trips.

Homeschooled, I think. One of the cable shows did a story about them during the time the last one was born. All the kids seemed healthy and happy. Maybe the oldest ones go to public or private school...can't remember. They all play the violin and the girls dress modestly....dresses or jumpers. It was pretty interesting. They belong to some kind of church which is where they socialize. The oldest boy had a girlfriend but was never allowed to be alone with her. They, at that time, were on no public assistance. A trip to the grocery store was absolutely amazing!

If they are happy and can afford it, more power to them.

If they can afford 16 kids, why are they living in Arkansas?

I can just see them now, SUVs are eventually outlawed, and all 16 are crammed into one of those Dodge Neons.

Second, didn't "Ginger" originate as a nickname for someone named "Virginia"? Wouldn't that be like naming a child "Bob" from birth rather than "Robert"?

Check out the father's name -- Jim Bob. It's an Arkansas thing.

I saw that too, but I think that's actually a different family. IIRC the one on the Discovery Channel had an oldest son who was married which isn't the case here.

It's not so bad to be pregnant during the holidays... well, that is unless you give birth (C-Section) the week before Christmas. Without your shopping done.

:o)

"If they are happy and can afford it, more power to them."

I have to admit I was waiting to find out she was on welfare or something. But as long as they're paying themselves, more power to them.
