Service on the Supreme Court defending our Constitution is every bit as important as those who fight and die on the battlefield. And a lot less lethal. I have contempt for anyone who gets the call to defend our Constitution and declines "for personal reasons." Oh for God's sake! It's a judicial position, and all these people already have judicial positions. They just don't want to put themselves or their families through the media exercise of digging through their garbage.
Nobody's being elected Pope here. And, in the last conclave, even cardinals took their names out of consideration.

Your post displays the divide between your faction and mine. You say it is "a judicial position." I say that it is one of nine people who will decide if this country, this republic, this idea that we call "America" continues to exist.
That's why we strict constructionists are so outraged by this nomination and why -- flawed person that I am -- I could never imagine refusing to serve if I were ever so honored as to be called to make such a contribution.
If you do not see it in these terms, stop for a moment and reflect about those of us who do.

"Oh for God's sake!"
Spoken like a true coward. Way to go stinky.
It fine for our brave young men and women go die on far off battle fields but defending the Constitution here at home is just too much to ask huh?
