I have changed my mind about Harriet Miers. Last Thursday, I wrote in OpinionJournal's Political Diary that "while skepticism of Ms. Miers is justified, the time is fast approaching when such expressions should be muted until the Senate hearings begin. At that point, Ms. Miers will finally be able to speak for herself."
But that was before I interviewed more than a dozen of her friends and colleagues along with political players in Texas. I came away convinced that questions about Ms. Miers should be raised now--and loudly--because she has spent her entire life avoiding giving a clear picture of herself. "She is unrevealing to the point that it's an obsession," says one of her close colleagues at her law firm.

No, I think they're pouting because they weren;t consulted and furthermore they want a fight more than they want a solid justice on the court.
They're all in the business where "rifts" sell and line their pockets, except for the speech writer, Frum.
This is my final comment on this issue. If President Bush is a man of wisdom, he will withdraw her nomination, no matter how much he "trusts" the nominee. It has reached the point where it is doing serious damage to his party, not the opposition. We need a clearly defined, knock down drag out debate in the Senate to settle the abortion issue once and for all. Putting a strong pro-life judge with an obvious pro-life track record as the nominee will accomplish this. Leaving this important issue for future debate only keeps everybody frustrated and angry, and continues the genocide of the unborn. Its time to settle it now! President Bush, tell the liberals "go ahead, make my day" by putting a true no nonsense conservative up for nomination.
While many of the Bush judicial nominees she has helped shepherd to confirmation are affiliated with the Federalist Society, Ms. Miers herself has been ambivalent about the influential conservative legal group. In 1990, she almost anticipated how much of a lightning rod the group would become to the left. She testified in a court case that she would not join the society because "it's better not to be involved in organizations that seem to color your view one way or the other for people who are examining you."
I think it's funny so many Freepers support Miers. If she feels this way about the Federalist Society, I doubt she could be very fond of FR (that is, if she even knows what FR is).
NOW, how do YOU know THAT? Sheesh.
LOL. Too funny!
If the nomination is withdrawn, look for ALBERTO GONZALES. That will send the pundit cabal reeling.
I must be off as it's late here in EST land. You have helped paint the record for Miers that has thus far been more blank slate than not. Good night.
Bump to that!
Karl Rove isn't going to let Bush do that. He'll be rejected just like Miers is.
It won't happen that way.
Should it appear the majority of committee Republicans are against her, she will ask Bush to withdraw her nomination. That will only happen should she make a mess of her appearance and that is not likely.
. . . that will be a good setup for a nomination of a stronger candidate. And if that happens, they had better fight tooth and nail for that candidate!!!!!!!
The Democrats will be made stronger. You'll get your fight alright, but having made like Democrats demanding the right to know everything in advance, the Republicans will be left without a rational reason to deny the Democrats what they demand in consideration of the next nomination.
Well, he is after all the only qualified candidate left after Miers.
Wasn't it Ann Coulter who said "Bush is getting even with them... dissing them for being right wing?"
Well, if that's the case, Alberto will be rammed right down their throats if he has to withdraw Miers or if Miers gets shafted by GOP senators...lol.
She serves up M&M's!
LOL
Talking about Harriet Miers?
Well, you haven't kept up here --- the posters are saying Karl will be GONE soon. Please get with the hysteria.
Go Alberto!!
But after that fight is lost... (and there are too many RINOs in the senate to win that fight) THEN WHAT?
We are left with another Borked Candidate debacle.
Who to nominate then, Teddy Kennedy?
