I voted for him in 2000 and 2004 despite his votes on those issues. I didn't introduce the word trust into this equation, you did. I voted for him because I thought he was the best person for the job. I don't have to agree with him on every issue to vote for him.

Likewise, I don't have to agree with W. on every issue to trust him to make a good pick for USSC.

Because you are supporting his nomination of Miers strictly on the criterion of trust.

My is trust based on, as you said, W. was the best man for the job of President.

This is where we part company. I believe he could have picked a better candidate (with a proven track record) even under the circumstances.

I wonder what the final track record at the end of their term on the court has been of those picked with a "proven" track record.

It was a fight worth having.

Yeah it is quite evident that you guys on your side have been hankering for a good knockdown drag out fight. Not sure our spineless RINOS in the Senate would be up for the job.

A recent example is the caving of RINOS in the house over the energy bill. Now is the time to strike and strike hard, but noooooooooo, we cave and let the dims get away with murder.

Better the libs attack Bush than having fellow conservatives attack one another. The mid-terms are coming up next year. We need a motivated, supportive base.

Yes we do.

Appeasing them with Miers will not satiate their appetite for Rep hides.

Ms. Miers is an evangelical Christian, who no doubt the dims will be fearful of her voting to over turning Roe v. Wade. I am not so sure that her confirmation is a surety.

On today's court, start with Breyer and Bader-Ginsberg. The Dems seemed to have selected the right ones. Scalia, Thomas, and Rehnquist had proven track records. Souter didn't. Kennedy did but has shifted somewhat. O'Connor was vetted but has turned towards the end of her career as part of her legacy building. I have no idea what was done in the case of Stephens.

If that is meant to be a ray of hope, I would rather not put my trust in the Dems to block this one. GWB signed CFR hoping that SCOTUS would declare parts of it unconstitutional. It didn't happen as another 5 to 4 vote carried the day.
