Agreed: this would be a very convenient fall-back target...

"After all the reporting about the NYC threat yesterday, maybe they decided to drive only as far as Philly."

I would think once you're set up in NYC, that it would be tough to recalibrate your collective efforts in Philadelphia, less than 16 hours after the threat to NYC subways is issued. It's anyone's guess, though, of course.

My daughter had to go down there yesterday for a class field trip. I was worried about it being the beginning of Ramadan, so I kept warning her to look for anyone who laid down knapsacks or packages. I got the typical eyes-roll-in-the-head response. This article goes to her. Stay safe!

Actually I am finding the cell system not working again, very interesting. It was reported here over the weekend that the cells went down at the Sooners game right after the bomb went off. At the game, it had nothing to do with panic...interesting.

Advantages of taking the cell systems down, no secondary explosions, no communication between t-cell members...cell phones are used frequently to set off IEDs.

Station re-opened.  Guess the only thing now would be what was this jerk's motivation?

My daughter had to go down there yesterday for a class field trip. I was worried about it being the beginning of Ramadan

For some reason, your post reminds me of my daughter's first day of kindergarten last year, right on the heels of the Beslan massacre.  I'm not a paranoid person, but that was more than a little in my mind too. When it comes to your kids, you can't help but worry.

It may be standard procedure. Didn't London shut down cell service right after the bombings?

Hate to panic anyone, but when I realized what the date is today, I did a search:

October 07, 2001:

On my orders, the United States military has begun strikes against al-Qa'eda terrorist training camps and military installations of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. - President George W. Bush

Sept 11 News

Prayers up that this is just a coincidence and nothing happens today...anywhere.

I am a pretty rational person in general. But when my child is concerned, I am a raving lunatic. My husband and daughter would confirm that. And she's 20 years old. I'm glad that the station is now re-opened.

REad that what had happened is that a dog alerted onto the smell of a propane torch nozzle the guy was carrying in his pack.

I figured out a long time ago that parenthood is not always a popular sport. I do what I think best and my daughter has learned that life goes a lot easier to just put up with it.

Prayers up. He's fine. He'll call you soon to tell you all about his morning.

The authorities may have deliberately decommissioned all cell service for obvious reasons.

Thanks for the traffic nightmare you F-in' jerk.

If you are referring to the guy with the propane nozzle, I didn't know that would alert a bomb dog, did you?

If you mean anyone in SEPTA, I'm reminded of a story from WWII where a private in newly invaded France got his unit (battalion?) up all night for a gas alert. One of the war gases smells like new mown hay and they were camped near a hayfield. The private got a "well done" from his CO.

A traffic snarl is a lot better than what would happen if they missed a bomb.

Don't our kids have that eyes rolling in the head down pat!

We parents have that raised eyebrows down pat!
