Wasn't it Caligula who appointed a horse to sit on the Roman Senate, to show his low opinion of the body? This nomination of Miers is GW thumbing his nose at the Conservative base.

This nomination of Miers is GW thumbing his nose at the Conservative base.I don't think that's fair. I do not believe that Bush is a vindictive man. This nomination is exactly what it appears to be and no deep thinking about it is necessary. Bush turned tail and ran away from a fight.

Actually Caligula just proposed the horse to sit in the Senat. The horse was never actually seated.
