Sounds like Rove is going to be indicted. Why else would he do this at the last minute?

Uh oh. This also means the reporters weren't targets at all as they presumably never got the target warning about themselves.

Sounds like Rove is wanting to get the last word in now that he believes he may be indicted. They just keep piling on. Politics of personal destruction is working for the RATs.

The republicans need to up the ante and start doing the same thing to the RATs. Then they can pull a Clinton and just say politics as usual.

UPDATE:

Rove offered in July to return to the grand jury for additional testimony and Fitzgerald accepted that offer Friday after taking grand jury testimony from the formerly jailed New York Times reporter Judith Miller.

Before accepting the offer, Fitzgerald sent correspondence to Rove's legal team making clear that there was no guarantee he wouldn't be indicted at a later point as required by the rules.

Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin, said Thursday he would not comment on any ongoing discussion he has had with Fitzgerald's office but that he has been assured no decisions on charges have been made. Rove would first have to receive what is known as a target letter if he is about to be indicted.

"I can say categorically that Karl has not received a target letter from the special counsel. The special counsel has confirmed that he has not made any charging decisions in respect to Karl," Luskin said.

He said that Rove "continues to be cooperative voluntarily" with the special counsel investigation and "beyond that, any communication I have or may have in the future are going to be treated as completely confidential."

The persons, who spoke only on condition of anonymity because of grand jury secrecy

I guess it isn't all that secret then?

I never trusted Fitzgerald. He's no better than Ronnie Earle.

Rove doesn't believe he will be indicted or that he can be proven innocent easily, otherwise he would not agree to testify.

Just one minute....

The person who outed Plame was her husband Wilson...and
Aldridge (spy).

Rove should not be indicted because he was a gossiper anymore than Dan Rather, who also was a gossiper...
Note, neither provided news!

Even if he gets indicted, all Rove needs to do is to run out the clock until one day after the '08 election. Then its pardon time. If McCain is the GOP candidate, Bush might not even wait that long. It will be two-for: a going away gift for a loyal soldier and a kidney punch to a disloyal one.

I have a question - is the prosecutor a Democrat? Ever since Miller got out of jail and Fitzgerald (Fitzpatrick, whatever his name is) made a deal with her not to ask about her other sources (supposedly) I'm beginning to wonder if this is going to end up with an indictment of Rove. Yeah, yeah, I have my tinfoil hat on and maybe you need one to read this, but I started wondering at that point when nothing made any sense about why she would sit there for 3 months and suddenly just before his grand jury ran out, she would decide to testify. What if this is just another indictment like Delay's to get rid of Rove for the '06 election. The Dimwits are terrified of Rove. Most of this "corruption" crap is beginning to look like a playbook for the '06 election including the Dimbulbs having a Contract on American starting with HillaryCare. Looks like they are just borrowing Newt's from '94 and creating things to fill in the blanks.

CNN says that Rove's lawyer said he did NOT get a target letter.

First sentence is very misleading.

Rove's offer to testify again has been on the table since last July.

AP tries to make it sound like an act of desperation on Rove's part.

I'm worried this was always as it appeared to be and we've been reading between the lines. The last event was Miller naming Scooter. Suddenly there seems the possibility of a Scooter v. Rove scenario. That would seem the worst case scenario if they've been nailed for fudging the facts. Obviously no crime was committed re Plame but it's usually the aftermath that gets you. I'll hope for the best but fear the worst. I'll happily settle for an indictment with a he said she said Rove v. Miller type of thing.
