Bubba: Iraq war's 'a quagmire'
BY KENNETH R. BAZINET DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU
Former President Clinton worries for the mission in Iraq. WASHINGTON - Former President Bill Clinton says Iraq "looks like a quagmire," and estimates "the odds are not great of our prevailing there."
But, speaking for an interview that appears in the November issue of Ladies Home Journal, Clinton qualified his quagmire remark by saying, "It's not Vietnam."
"The reason this is not Vietnam is that 58% of the eligible voters showed up and voted in Iraq," Clinton told the magazine. The South Vietnamese government was "never legitimate" in the eyes of the Vietnamese, he said.
The former President, who has teamed up with President Bush's father to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina and last December's Indian Ocean tsunami, said the key to success is getting the Iraqis to defend themselves against the insurgents.
"Having said that, it could go wrong," Clinton admitted. "Since the end of World War II, the only major foreign power that succeeded in putting down an insurgency was the British putting down the Malay insurgency, but the British stayed 15 years.
"So you can say for historical reasons, the odds are not great of our prevailing there," Clinton pointed out.
Clinton's spokesman told the Daily News yesterday his boss remains staunchly committed to a U.S. victory in Iraq.

I think it can succeed in 10 to 20 years but people are going to have to demand politics be left out of it. Our government needs to speak with one voice and explain the process of educating people with 5th century mind sets into this century. We are planting seeds and if we don't hang around to water them they won't grow.
43% of the vote is hardly a benchmark of a winner.
The topic will be Iraq.
There may be more truth in what you are saying than you might realize.
The WOT may never be over!!!!!!
It's as if the the prediction itself is self-fulfilling for them, reality be damned, the very definition of delusion. It is so obvious that this sort of negativity is designed to give hope to the enemy, while demoralizing the home team, it can serve no other purpose at this juncture.
...bringing aid and comfort to the enemy.
And none dare call it treason.
What old Bill says is true. If he was President, we would be in a quadmire whether it be Iraq or the US.
Not to worry. Bill said they'd by home by Christmas but failed to mention which year ;-)
Yeah, gee, I wonder why, huh? Are they turning the other cheek in the Christian sense or are they turning the other cheek and mooning the masses? The Bushes and Clintons need to get a divorce NOW.
Sad part is that the myopic masses are busy grazing and see nothing.
"Former President Bill Clinton says Iraq "looks like a quagmire," and estimates "the odds are not great of our prevailing there."
To paraphrase Mark Twain; If you take an impeached President, treat him with respect and increase his credibility, he will bite you. That is the principle difference between a Klinton and an honorable man.
Are you getting the message Presidents Bush??
Billy should read Washington's Farewell
Bill Clinton is a quagmire
My husband went to Sarajevo two years ago, with his bn commander. It was our Army/Marine drill sgts teaching the Army there how to effectively train new soldiers. During meetings, high ranking officers would segregate themselves according their ethnicity and refuse to sit by each other- Serbs only sitting by Serbs, etc. The bn commander had worked with these men very closely and they trusted him...he forced them to mix it up and sit by each other, but they only listened to him b/c they trusted him. Also, the same group of high ranking officers came to the USA for 1 week...my hubby was their guide...they went to Wal-Mart and bought toys for their kids, as there wasn't one place in their country that kids could get toys. Everything had to be hand made. Barbie was sought after for the little girls. Yes, Bill, you don't have to tell me a darn thing.

Liars, always figure.
