Britain: Iran Supplying Iraq Insurgents

LONDON (AP) - Britain believes Iran's Revolutionary Guard is supplying explosive technology that is killing British soldiers in Iraq, including eight who died in separate bombings over the summer, a senior British government official said Wednesday. Tehran rejected the allegation.

Britain's Press Association reported that the official said there was evidence Iran was in contact with Sunni Muslim insurgent groups battling coalition troops in Iraq.

The official, addressing reporters on condition of anonymity, did not specify whether the alleged Iranian technology was also responsible for the deaths of U.S. soldiers, according to the agency.

He reportedly said Britain believed the guard had given insurgents the technology - originally obtained from the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah - used in a series of deadly attacks on British troops in southern Iraq over the summer. The soldiers were killed by powerful roadside bombs capable of punching through armored vehicles.

Iran's Foreign Ministry dismissed the accusations.

"It's better they provide their evidence if they have any," ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said in Tehran, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency. "It's clear that they don't have any evidence. They accuse others while they are the source of insecurity, instability and crisis in Iraq."

The British official said Tehran could be trying to warn Britain off its demands that Iran abandon its nuclear program. "It would not be outside the policy parameters of Tehran," he said, according to Press Association.

He declined to comment on whether Britain believes the Revolutionary Guard was acting independently or on the Iranian government's orders.

The Revolutionary Guard is a military organization separate from the regular armed forces. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was inaugurated earlier this month, is a former commander in the Guards.

The official said that Saddam Hussein's trial, due to begin Oct. 19, could be delayed until after the elections because logistics like bulletproof screens and witness protection programs were not yet ready.

"I think there are some logistical problems. There are a lot of things they haven't got round to yet," the official said.

I'm... surprised?

Speaking of which (off subject), you know since certain Muslim factions think it's acceptable to stage Ramadan attacks... I think it's time to hit the two cities. If they have no respect for their religion... why should we?

Apparently, "Tungsten Rods (4" by 6')", If "Dropped From""Geosynchronos Orbit, (22,000')," are as DEVASTATING as a Nuclear Weapon!

There is NO NEED to "Threaten" ANY "Culture" with Annihilation.

The Time Has Come, for ALL of our "Cultures", to "MAKE PEACE!!"

If the "Followers of 'Islam'" INSIST on pursuing "WAR,"--then the Consequences of Their Behavior, & the DESTRUCTION of their CULTURES, is "UPON Their SOULS!!"

AT BEST, "ISLAM" can only "Equal" Christianity.

In our Modern World, "ISLAM" is a !4teenth Century Aberration.

Our Culture "Moves On..."

"ISLAM" Lives in the Past---1500 years ago!!

This is simple - air strike time - Reagan would have done it by now. Come on GW get back in the saddle show us you got the sand to finish the job.

PS - He would have killed two birds with one stone - no diaper head nuke program.

Best regards from the Pig eating infidel from Idaho

re :This is simple - air strike time

On which target.

There is no real proof that Iran is officially supplying the equipment.

There is no shortage of expertise amongst the former members of the Iraq military or military equipment.

The Allies do not have enough troops to police Iraq and defteat the insugency there never mind widening the scope of the war to deal with Iran and Syria.

Re:-"There is no real proof that Iran is officially supplying the equipment" If you believe that I suppose you call the Iranian insurgents in Iraq "Freedom fighters.

The targets are plentiful, start with the nuke facilities, command and control, armored divisions, airfields, training facilities, Radar and Communications and blow the shit out of the whole dam place as far as I am concerned.

The scope of the war is already broadened only a few fail to see it - we are in fact fighting many of the countries in the region it just so happens to be in Iraq.

Big difference in street shit fighting and an all out assault. Who wants to stay there and police it - just bomb it.

Hell the press can't report it any worse than they do now so just get it done.

re :Big difference in street shit fighting and an all out assault. Who wants to stay there and police it - just bomb it.

If that is the case why after toppling Saddam are we still in Iraq.

And there is no real proof that Iran has officially sanction troops in Iraq.

That might not make much of a difference to the man in the street but it does to both the political and military leadership in both Britain and America.

Widening the scope of the war may just end with us all having to withdraw from that region.

There was a similar problem in Cambodia during the Vietnam Police Action and u can bet your ass that the military and political leadership are not going to make the same mistake again.

And while it might sound nice lets bomb the b*****ds who cares about proof it wont go down well within international law and community.

And before u say well f**k international law and the international community.

In most respects America is the face of the international community, as the wolds only leading super power and with more alliances with more countries than any other country.

And as someone who has been on the receiving end out there I don't call any of them freedom fighters, they are terrorists plain and simple only aim to kill. They care nothing for the people they claim to represent.

No different to the North Irish terrorists.

Many of the terrorists were from South Ireland , but can you imagine the outrage in America if we bombed Dublin.
