Rush's command of facts and his demeanor puts everyone else on TV and radio to shame. He is still the MAN!

He is absolutely right that the Republicans will pay for this ill advised move by the President in 2006.

Very astute of Greta and her handlers. They knew damn well her program would have had a ratings tank if Bill Clinton would have been her main guest. Too bad Rush accepted to come on tonight.... Rush rescued the On The Record ratings, I guarantee.

I prefer 'aunt harriet' from batman fame for the nickname.

Ozzie and harriet were married with children. IIRC aunt harriet was kind of like aunt bea - never married with no kids.

Rush did an excellent job. If you heard his show today, he basically repeated it all in a condensed version. Greta barely got in a word edgewise. Why did she have to ask him who would be on the 2008 GOP ticket? Like he's going to answer that.

We were discussing this in the thread with david's column. Apologies to david for confiscating it to discuss his brother. LOL

Articulated the position beautifully, and best of all, Greta hardly spoke. :-)

Sorry for anyone that didn't catch it. It was a summary of his show, but condensed, and straight to the point.

I like Rush almost to a hundred percentile but about Miers' and what I heard Rush say about it and the selection involved here by Bush, I disagree.

Rush made a point of saying he wasn't disapproving of Miers herself (I am glad he clarified that) but he also seems to say (correct me if I'm wrong about this) that the selection of Miers is disappointing overall to conservatives as a big let down for the Supreme Court because Miers is not a paragon of conservatism...then he clarified as a conservative he didn't disapprove of Miers but...continuing to emphasize how difficult our conservative present tense politically was arrived at, how hard it's been to get where we are and then there's Miers and, oh boy, what a disappointment and all the rest.

I am not at all sure what Rush said, is what I mean, other than he considers Bush nominating Miers as a big disappointment to conservatives who Rush says are responsible for the current Republican White House. And that there's an expectation accordingly by conservatives (Rush doesn't identify who, specifically, he means here beyond the corporate use of the term, "conservatives") that there would be, should be, was supposed to be some giant authoritarian conservative nominated for the S.C. but instead we have Miers.

I disagree with this. I am rather liking Miers' lowkey, "ordinary person" personna AS a Conservative. She's beginning to look like the Harriet Gump of the S.C. to me.

LOL! Greta usually interrogates whomever she has on her program with one question after the next -- as tho the person was in the witness chair. So nice to see her voice stilled! Thanks Rush!

I think Miers is a good pick and she will slide in under the radar and surprise a lot of people with her votes. Another good thing is W knows her personally which will make it harder for her to turn into another Souter.

I think I will defer judgment until I hear what Rush says himself tomorrow on his show. Somehow I suspect some of the "analysis" of this by certain Freepers is as reliable as an AP "news" story. I suspect I will find that like the AP certain Freepers are reporting what they WANT the story to be, NOT what Rush actually said.

I almost always agree with Rush. And, I understand his point of view here. I too would have liked to deliver a knock out punch to Democrats, but I am now absolutely convinced - and I was an avowed skeptic previously - that Miers is an outstanding, smart pick. I completely believe that she is of the same cloth as Justice Thomas and Scalia.

President Bush said today that he wanted someone that would be the same 20 years out as today, meaning that they would not become a Souter or a Kennedy.

Meirs is a great pick. I just hope that Republicans itching for a fight with Bush will come to see this as well.

Considering how reliably Hate Bush at All Cost your are, I will wait to hear what Rush has to say on his show tomorrow before taking you seriously.

The only thing I believe about this nominee is that the PRESIDENT believes in her. Although I do NOT agree with the President on all issues, I believe he is a man of his word.

I believe HE believes he has nominated a strict constructionist, but only time will tell, as it would with any appointee. Personally I would much rather have a TRACK RECORD that assures me of her beliefs. However, as most people know, past performance is NOT always an indication of future results.

As an aside I have been wondering if CONSERVATIVES everywhere will call the President a LIAR, if Harriet Meirs turns out to be a LIBERAL on the court, as the Leftists called him a LIAR when no WMD were found in IRAQ?

Rush just wants a fight in the Senate so he'll have plenty to rant about. It would be good for his show and his pocketbook.
