Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- When a Supreme Court nominee doesn't have a black and white record on abortion, groups on both sides of the abortion debate look for nuances that could show a glimpse of how the nominee would rule on the contentious issue. Pro-life advocates may have found one on Harriet Miers with regard to the pro-life evangelical church she attends.

Exactly. One usually goes to a church where most people agree with him/her. Given that she has attended this church since before she became known, we can assume that this is the case.

Unless I am totally out of the loop (possible) - I can think of no christian denomination which would be "pro-abortion", nor a pastor / priest. FWIW - IIRC even the Jewish and Islamic Faiths oppose abortion as do thier religious leaders.
If this is the only basis to determine whether to support someone for the USSC - well, WTF??
In my book, being a lawyer is a disqualifier that needs to be mitigated with virtues.
So is this expected to offset her stance on civil rights for gays and lesbians, or their rights to adopt children? The more I read today, the more I'm convinced there may be another Supreme Court nominee in the very near future.
Well, I'm not some mindless robot who goes along with just everything GWB does. I think for myself, and all I can say is, if she's all right with Dobson, then she's all right with me, too!

Qualifications would be things like: degrees, awards and mostly previous job experience.
Those are not her views.
I'm not critiquing her resume here. I'm just saying that qualifications are not the same as views.
Is she still a member of that church, or did she leave with Ron Key to start a new fellowship? If so why?
Miers is pro-life and pro-RKBA Evangelical Cristian with more "firsts" in Texas than the Dallas Cowboys......what do you want in a nominee?
I didn't realize running a lottery, or being a trial lawyer, were considered good qualifications to be a judge.
How about being the President of the Texas Bar?
Another disqualification. The Bar Association is strongly associated with left-wing activism and opposition to badly-needed tort reform.
The same could have been said about Bill Clinton's Arkansas church as well. Come to think of it, the leader of Ted Kennedy's and John Kerry's church has pretty good pro-life credentials, as does Harry Reid's.
On the other hand, George W. Bush's church tends toward pro-abortion.
So what does this story prove?
OK but i still would like to know is the pastor a lawyer?
Maybe some experience doing a similar job in the past? In my experience, skill at one job isn't considered a strong qualification for a job that requires different skills, even if they are in related fields. For example, as a database developer, I am not necessarily an appropriate candidate to administer that very same system.
So if ANYONE serves in leadership on the Bar that does not count as a qualification for the SC in your view, eh?
That's correct. Associations with any Bar Association score in my book anywhere from zero to a moderate negative.
