Lemme ask you one question: Did Dubya do what he said he'd do (pick justices in the mold of Scalia and Thomas), or did he sell out the base on YET ANOTHER issue?
Now, let me repeat: he's an idiot. This will turn control of the WH, Congress and Senate over to the D's for DECADES. The millions who did get-out-the-vote, shoe-leather-on-the-street to get R's elected for THIS **ONE** issue alone will simply stay home next time - or vote Constitutional Party to make a statement.
(R) is done for the next 2 decades, EASILY. Mark my post and check it in '06 and '08 and WATCH. WE are quite unhappy, and it WILL have ramifications.
Dubya wants to totally ignore his base on this? Well, he personally won't suffer - but the (R) party will.
I'm **DONE** with the (R)'s - they are spineless idiots that don't know what to do with power when they have it.
I really don't care about her personal beliefs. I want to know if she will apply someone else's (e.g. Madison's) beliefs.

There is NO DIFFERENCE in the two parties anymore. Period.
I will be voting 3rd party this year for the first time. I switched from Democrat to Republican in the 90's, and now from republican to something else in the 00's.

GWB says he knows her heart. I don't give a fig about her heart. I care about her head. The court needs someone, like Scalia with the intellectual firepower to move the court in a right direction. The problem with this pick is that with so many stellar potential picks out there, he went with someone who is less than stellar. It's called a letdown.
I think many of these people truly are disgusted by the pick, they wanted to shove one down the Left's throats and this pick doesn't do that.
I personally know nothing about the woman, but I look forward to learning. I think she will turn out to be more conservative than many think. But she is going to be a leap of faith as far as how she would judge cases.
I agree with you somewhat, however, I can understand the frustration with the president. He really has been a disappointment in so many areas, but I learned long ago not to put my total trust in politicians but in God only. Politicians (and Bush is one), will disappoint us time and time again. I think its far more healthier to not trust our leaders so blindly. Keeps us much more alert, hopefully. Republicans as well as Democrats are disappointed often with their leaders.

But President Bush has apparently not learned that moving to the left will gain him little support. This nomination will no doubt please The Dallas Morning News editorial board and the country-club Republicans from the Park Cities area of Dallas (where SMU is located) to the Philadelphia Main Line. It will not please the inveterate Bush-haters among the Democrats.
Both secular conservatives and the Christian Right will abandon their support of the President. Barring some unforeseen event, Bush's popularity ratings will sink down to the levels of Governor Taft of Ohio, whose approval level is at 15%.

The candidate who garnered a major portion of his votes based on promises of Supreme Court slam dunks...just went in for another lay-up.
My gut reaction is very negative. While I think it's very easy to overread the Dem contributions, my concern is with her suggested non-pro-life position. If true, or if she is a half-hearted conservative, i.e., a RINO, or a Souter, then YES THAT would be a disaster! If that's the case, say goodbye to 2006 and 2008!
But I'll keep my powder dry for the moment. It could certainly be that this woman has had a spiritual encounter with her Creator and has thus become more focused on the issues we hold important.
