Fox News reporting a tour boat named the "Ethan Allen" has overturned in a lake in northern New York state. 46-50 persons were on board and rescues are on going. Searching for an AP link...
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
My family and I were on the Mohican just about a month ago. Must have been our 8th or 9th trip with that line. They always seemed to take safety very, very seriously. If fact, one of those single person speed craft cut off the Mohican. The captain called the Sheriff's patrol, and the joyrider was immediately apprehended.
Channel 10 (WTEN) out of Albany now reporting 20 souls lost. Also reporting conflicting reports regarding the Mohican being involved and that it may have been another craft - most likely a large speed boat - speeding by the Ethen Allen.
Fox split screen with tour boat video on right and former CBS hack Melvin Kalb on left.
(Kalb postulates prosecuter Fitzgerald has evidence of criminal conspiracy with administration officials trying to defame Plame/Wilson because of their opposition to administration policy. Kalb is an old leftist that no doubt is trying to continue Dan Rather's jihad against the Bush administration and get retribution for Dan Rather's downfall by the new media.)
Fox breaks for replay of FNC (with Tom Delay, Juan's rants, and a not to be missed Power Player of the week). I'm out of here please keep the reports coming.

I'll respond, despite the "sheesh" that has displayed how little you know about boating. The Coast Guard does not have a boat on every lake. The Coast Guard serves only on the coastal waters and in some large navigable lakes such as the Great Lakes. However, they will send choppers to search and rescue missions anywhere, if they are near enough to help.
And as for your life jacket remark, life jackets are not required to be worn, nor are they regularly worn on boats of this size.
I am saying there were life vests on board but the passengers were not wearing them.
I wouldn't have put one on myself unless it was mandatory knowing Lake George and the ship involved.
Its a freak accident. They happen.
"I googled for the boat and it doesn't look like it can hold 50 passengers."
I can imagine some greedy type putting in 8 rows of benches seating 3 on either side of an aisle.
Another problem is this craft has a very high center of gravity and if they put glass on the sides, there are certainly some design issues since this would really trap the passengers in were it to roll.
WTEN now reporting that the Mohican was not, nor any of its associated fleet, were involved in this tragedy.
Kalb is a despicable senile leftist who hates his country.
The last thing Lake George area is is GREEDY. IT is a tourist area with great service. They close down for the winter.
If you don't know the area you shouldn't comment as if you do.
We still dont know what did happen and people are jumping to conclusions.
Are we all liberals all of a sudden????
BTW Shoreline Cruises has been operating in the LG area for many many years and nothing else has happened. THey have more then one ship and also rent out small power boats and jetskis to whowever wants to sign the waivers and fork out the money.
This is a freak accident.
It would seem that I know little enough about the matter to become a FNC host-ette.
I did come inches from sinking a boat on that lake when a storm came in.
Your take?
Also - Now 20 confirmed dead.
It's a sad story. I've never been to lake George, but understand that it is beautiful. I have been to lovely nearby Saratoga Springs and the historic racetrack there. Upstate New York is a great area, from all that I've seen.
Prayers for the folks who lost their lives today.
Also if this particular ship was on an hour cruise it didn't even leave the major hub of Lake George. It went out half hour and then back. The shore is never far away and most of the water in that area is QUITE shallow.
I am curious to wonder if some speed boating was under way.
I am also curious to wonder if some giant speed boat was there unexpected and took over the lake with no regards to anyone.
If that is the case then this is really sick.
But as I have said in prior posts accidents happen.
Tragic all around. I would still hate for LG to get bad press over this.
Thanks, that's much better.
I echo the sentiments of you both.
Those poor, poor, people.
What an awful way to die. How tragic to witness your friends drowning, even if you are fortunate enough not to.
Heheheh.
Well, CG is a federal agency, so one would look to federal law for jurisdiction.

Any idea of how tired I am of hearing the 'Bush's fault' accusation being made by libs in the press?
And this makes your too-oft-repeated joke less annoying how?
Especially since we know it was Cheney all along...
I have been almost swamped 4 times,, once by a container ship, once by a shrimp boat and twice by the US Coast Guard!
