Ruthie...I was at the Sawgrass Mills Mall when he was parked next to me and was bragging about who he was and was getting into a new Lexus with his girlfriend or whatever she was.
Not a lie...well known throughout Davie,Hollywood,Pembroke Pines,and Miami Lakes.
Being a good Communist, Castro is glad to get his property back...
60 Minutes. Imagine that..
So, maybe the it was the girlfriend's Lexus?
And since when does drivig a Lexus make someone a "bad guy"?
That's me and him. We were good friends and I'd been in his car dozens of times.
Maybe you met up with him later (although I don't ever recall any time when he's owned a Lexus). Or maybe it wasn't his car. *shrugs*
I'm not saying he didn't act that way, but it kinda goes against the guy I knew. I'll go ahead and apologize if it went as you say - but I know you can understand my doubts.
I didn't say bad...I said scam artist. He used a freak of luck chance in his life where he happened to be on a boat and threw his name around like he is Donald Trump down in Miami.
He was getting into the driver's side of the car so it was a safe assumption it was his.
This is not about Donato, this is about Elian.
Do you think it was right for Reno to take the kid at the point of an assault rifle and hand him over on a silver platter to Castro?
Come to think of it...it was a year after maybe year and a half...outside of the arena across the street after a Panthers game. Ran into him again at the McDonalds on Sunrise right there as well next to Shell before you get on the expressway...got one of those "you know who i am right?" as we were talking about something. Rolls eyes..lol. Believe me..I am on your side of the Elian issue. I just know that I am not the only person to encounter his obnoxious behavior post-Elian.
I know a few reporters who work both the entertainment beats and city desks and have heard the same stuff. But hey...it's Miami and I guess he will have a role as a savior down there from now til he dies.
No. I've heard about his obnoxious behavior from other folks.
I think he did go through a rather nasty period afterwards. Burnt out from being beat up by the press.
But he really is a decent guy, albeit imperfect. Just got in way over his head.
While it wasn't right to go sticking a gun in a childs face - he did have a father. I don't get why Republicans were so against his having to go home. What happened to a father's rights? Not to mention illegal immigration.
I can't stand having to re-argue it all over again.
Elian's Mother died to bring him to freedom. Cuba is a communist prison. If his Father cared about Elian, he wouldn't have wanted him back -- he did, because Castro threatened him and bribed him.
Would you return a kid to a concentration camp, because his Father was still there?
Well, Donato may not be perfect, who is, but he was trying to help Elian -- he not only saved him at sea, but he was the one who was holding and hiding him in the closet, when Clinton and Reno's storm troopers broke in.
If I have to choose between Donato and Clinton/Reno, guess how comes out ahead?
Are you happy that he is the brainwashed trophy of Castro and not a free kid in Florida?
So sorry to have tried you patience. Anyway, there are millions of people all over the world living in communist governments - should we invite them all over here to live? Living in CA, I can tell you dozens of illegals have died trying to cross the border this year - shall we let all their children in because their parents died wanting to give them a better life?
You know, there are countries all over that think Pres. Bush is an "infidel". Does that mean if your wife/husband takes your child to Saudi Arabia you shouldn't get him back?
Not asleep, just in my early twenties - I couldn't have cared less about politics then. I just can't seem to understand men who would give a woman hell for not allowing a father his parental rights in this country not minding a Cuban kid being yanked away from his father.
That's the big trick the media played on the public.
NO ONE wanted Elian to be away from his dad. Ever.
It was a question to what the father's ~real~ wishes were.
Not once was the option of a family-only sit down offered by the Clinton/Reno/Castro group even though the Miami family stated that it would all be over and they would give Elian back as long as they could sit alone in a room with Juan Miguel and talk to him without his Cuban bodyguards present.
Do you know how the Miami Gonzalez family knew that the little boy found over 40 miles away from their home on Thanksgiving Day was Elian?
Juan Miguel had called his uncle, Lazaro, days earlier to ask him to keep an eye out for his ex-wife and son who were on their way. Lazaro also told, to my face, that Juan Miguel had told him to keep Elian there and that he (Juan Miguel) would get there as soon as he could.
"Even if it is by bathtub."
It wasn't until after Castro jumped into the fray, that Juan Miguel wanted his son brought back to Cuba.
Ask yourself why?
It doesn't take much imagination to figure out what caused his change of heart. Especially considering how Castro did not allow Juan Miguel's mother (one of "the grandmothers" who came before he did) to stay in the USA when Juan Miguel came over.
Can you say "leverage"?
Positively Orwellian.
Elian had a father - I think that is relevant. So you don't like their government - does that give you the right to take a child away from his father? He's back where he should be - with his PARENT.
I can't argue with anyone that is part of the Hobbit Hole Troop Support. But it sounds to me that Juan Miguel loved his son very much and would have done anything to get to him. If Castro was forcing Juan to stay in Cuba then that can't be helped. He was born where he was born. Elian was born to a Cuban father and with his father is where he belongs.
