Thank you for finding them and posting them.
I believe that anyone who heard the FULL truth about what happened to Elian would be convinced that it was a travesty of justice.
It's simply a matter of explaining it and answering the questions honestly.
Passions run very hot on this topic, so I understand Chieftain's attitude. However, don't let your passion get the better of you. Truth speaks for itself, even in a whisper.
Chieftain - you must have had another screenname back then because I'm sure I must know you! I spent a lot of time in front of that house and hung out with Donato and the family after the raid.
Tighty - The whole idea of changing minds and hearts is wonderful, but the frustration of knowing the change has come too late for Elian hurts us deeply. You are more than entitled to your opinion, but please feel free to ask any questions you need answered in order to know where I'm coming from. :-D
We're all FReepers and we need to stick together, even when we disagree on certain issues. That said, I'll do my best to explain why I stand fast on my positions on certain issues.
This should be of interest.
How curious. The article fails to mention Janet Reno or President Clinton. Wonder why that was.......
If I remember correctly, the father was his illegitimate father who never knew him. The mother had custody. It would be better in this case to respect the mother's wishes vs. the father's wishes, who never had cared about the child before. it was only when Elian got media attention did the father act all surprised and "oh my son". Puh-leeze, the slimeball should have been happy.
