(AP) TRENTON - Federal officials say New Jersey’s counterterrorism agents filed 140 intelligence reports into a crime-fighting database with no grounds for suspicion other than the suspects were Muslims.
The Star-Ledger of Newark obtained a copy of the confidential review. It appears to support State Police, who said the computer entries amounted to improper profiling of suspects.
The State Police barred the Counter-Terrorism Office from making entries into the database fearing they would make it appear the agency condones profiling as it nears the end of a series of federally mandated racial profiling reforms...
