The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

This was mentioned on the talk shows last night, don't think I know which one, the opinion was that the town its self or areas of it would be locked down by the Military.

Martial law.

The statement that stuck with me was "What is the use in locking down a town, if there is a disease outbreak, when the border is open?"

There is no question that it can happen, the President knows what he is doing, I suspect, he knows he is going to need legal control.

They are talking about Terry Nichols 23 year old son having been arrested in Las Vegas, stolen car, and the Police had to Taser gun him......I missed part of the story, a hit and run or an accident, as the name didn't register at first.

MD...I saw this story yesterday. The details made me sick to my stomach. Once again the MSM is pandering to the "illegals"....the story I read yesterday labled them as "farm workers". The enemy within.

Not familiar with the specifics. However, just a little bit of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) goes a long way. Formed from decomposing organic materials. Storm drains here in sacto have the odor too. Rainy season will flush it out. Methane is generated under similar conditions, however not certain if it has an odor.

However the clock is ticking for their plans - if they want to claim the mantle of the Mahdi and the new Caliphate, they need to do so soon. Going by the astrological signs that have been claimed for the emergence of the Mahdi, the years 2003-2006 are critical. The astrological signs won't have this good a match for hundreds of years - if they don't make much of a mark soon, it will be that much harder to convince the less fanatical Muslims that they're really the movement of the Mahdi. It is quite clear that they'd very much like to cast themselves in that role.

I wouldn't go that far. They have has little success since Spain. London attacks galvanized public against radical islam and hurt their cause more than helped. Same with Bali, infact the trend world wide is that the popularity of terror is going down. Just on that level alone, given the general success of the WOT, they have to pull off something spectacular to gain the PR advantage again.

slightly disagree about the smaller attacks. If al Qaida, not one of their offshoots, strikes us again... it will likely be spectacular in nature in my opinion. I suppose that could be done against soft targets, but I'm not so sure. A Madrid, perhaps... A Bali type operation? I don't think so.

I consider coordinated vehicle bombings at heavly populated targets (malls, disney land, etc) to fit the spectacular category, especially if 6 of more. Smaller Bali-type operations (shall we add the recent OK 'incident') would be showy and hard to defend against, but would require more than a dozen to be spectacular IMHO. Less than that would show weakness by the terrorists in that they cannot hit the US with strength, like 911. This has been their tactic of choice, with 911 being an outlier to their MO.

Published: Oct 5, 2005 WASHINGTON (AP) - Entrances to the White House from Pennsylvania Avenue, a historic Washington thoroughfare, were briefly closed on Wednesday and workers already inside were told to remain in the building.

The shutdown lasted about 20 minutes. U.S. Secret Service officers on the scene said the incident was prompted by discovery of a suspicious package.

I'm not sure where we disagree - my point was that for maximum PR advantage in certain segments of the Muslim community, they need to do something soon, and preferably spectacular. Too much more delay and they're past their window of opportunity as far as the astrological signs go (and in those circles astrology counts for a lot from a propaganda perspective).

Rick Roberts is talking about the Oklahoma bombing on his radio show. He filled in for Michael Savage yesterday and was talking about it on his show also.

Rick is a local talk show guy, I think he was up in Denver for a while too, but once he starts in on an issue he does not let it go. He's totally fired up about this bombing and will keep digging until more answers and ATTENTION is given this story.

I keep thinking about some of the research we were doing several months back where we discussed a drawing of what appeared to be a football stadium. Also recall the statement from either one of the tapes or writings on a jihad site (I can't remember exactly which) where they claimed we would be watching the attack on TV. These big college football games are televised to a wide audience THIS month. I can't shake the thought that the OU event was supposed to be big and that maybe more campuses were involved. I think we still need to be very wary of islamic students studying here as well as the Jihad Johnnies.

I think both aspects are important, especially given their world-view. There really isn't much parallel in Christianity outside of a few of the sects; for the vast majority of Christians - even those who expect the Second Coming to happen very soon - questions of eschatology and the 'end-times' are viewed more as 'watchful waiting' rather than as something which they should be actively trying to bring about.

And I've expressed my opinion before that what they may actually bring about if they're successful would have a closer parallel in Christian eschatology to the reign of the Beast than to that of Christ ...

I'm worried about the football games myself ffnj. The pics you've referred to could be stadiums. These types of events are just too much of an attractive target. LOTS of casualties with relatively little effort. Heck, a small bomb could cause panic and that panic could cause more casualties than the bomb itself.

Have also heard theories that the TPTB explosive was just a trigger for the ammonium nitrate he was trying to buy; however, the ammonium nitrate must be soaked in diesel fuel to make it go BOOM.
