The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief
Full Story

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

Data on human smugglers by year-end
By Zulqernain Tahir

LAHORE, Oct 24: The first “red book” of the country containing the record of most wanted human smugglers and terrorists will be completed by the end of this year, it is learnt.

Official sources told Dawn on Monday that the Federal Investigation Agency’s special investigation group (SIG) had been assigned the task. The SIG has primarily been established to fight terrorism.

They said the SIG would launch an operation against them after maintaining the record. The agency’s anti-trafficking unit, the passport cell and the immigration wing would assist it in nabbing top human smugglers.

The sources said at present all provinces had maintained a record of the most wanted terrorists which was yet to be centralized.

They said the agency was gathering information about the top human smugglers from the deported persons especially from Oman, Iran, Turkey, Italy and the US. It is learnt that the governments of Oman, Turkey and Iran have asked Pakistan to take strict measures to control human smuggling.

According to some reports, about 30,000 Pakistanis have been deported from Oman on different charges since 2001. Besides, over 1,000 Pakistanis are languishing in different prisons of Muscat awaiting trials for an illegal entry into the country.

Several Pakistanis belonging to poor families have reportedly lost their lives while attempting to reach Oman to earn better livelihood. Similarly, scores of Pakistanis continue to cross the Iran border every week in a bid to reach Turkey, Greece or Italy.

The sources said most of the human smugglers in Punjab were operating in Gujrat, Wazirabad, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Malikwal, Faisalabad and adjacent areas.

They said the interior ministry was contemplating to award a handsome amount to the people who would provide information leading to the arrest of the most wanted human smugglers on the pattern of head money on terrorists.

To maintain the record of the most wanted terrorists, the SIG would collaborate with the central investigation department and other law enforcement agencies.

A senior officer told this reporter that the SIG had been strengthened in this regard. A technical wing was being established with a staff of 50 besides recruiting more staff in the intelligence wing and transport facilities.

E. COLI O157, RESTAURANT - USA (OREGON) *************************************** A ProMED-mail post ProMED-mail is a program of the International Society for Infectious Diseases ______________________________________________________________ Sponsored in part by Elsevier, publisher of Antiviral Research ***************************************************************** Date: Mon, 24 Oct 2005 From: ProMED-mail Source: Bend.com [edited] _____________________________________________________________ Deschutes County Public Health, Deschutes County Environmental Health, and the Oregon Department of Human Services are investigating an outbreak of _E. coli_ O157:H7 infection with common exposure at McGrath's Fish House in Bend. ______________________________________________________________ To date, 18 cases of diarrhea have been reported; 2 have confirmed _E. coli_ O157 infection. The restaurant is fully cooperative and working with the agencies to help identify the source and address any issues. At this point in time no specific food item stands out as a likely source. -------------------------------------- "We ask that persons who ate at McGraths in Bend between 12-18 Oct 2005 and afterwards who developed diarrhea to call the Deschutes County Health Department at 322-7451," said Dan Peddycord, Deschutes County Health Administrator. "Persons with severe diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, or inability to keep fluids down should seek medical attention," he added. ______________________________________________________________ Peddycord also cautioned persons with suspected O157 infection to avoid over-the-counter anti-diarrheal agents, such as loperamide (Imodium), and avoid antibiotics, because these medicines may increase the risk of complications. "_E. coli_ O157 can be spread easily to other family members if infected persons don't wash their hands after using the toilet," said Peddycord. _____________________________________________________________ _E. coli_ O157:H7 produces a powerful toxin and can cause severe illness. _E. coli_ O157:H7 infections may be spread from a variety of food products, most commonly undercooked ground beef, unpasteurized milk and apple cider, other foods cross-contaminated with raw beef, and untreated water. _E. coli_ O157:H7 can also be spread person-to-person, primarily within households. _______________________________________________________________ -- ProMED-mail ------------------------------------------- [The vehicle for acquisition of O157 in this outbreak is not yet known. Once a standard food survey is given to both those affected and unaffected who ate at the target facility, the information is likely to point to a source. Since the apparent source is a fish restaurant, the salad bar may be a prime suspect. ----------------------------------------- It is often stated that both antimicrobial and antimotility agents should be avoided in cases suspected to be due to _E. coli_ O157 infections to avoid complications, particularly hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Although a number of studies, including an oft-cited one from the New England Journal of Medicine (1) suggest that antimicrobial therapy increases the risk of HUS, a more recent meta-analysis (2) revealed a pooled odds ratio of only 1.15 with 95 percent confidence interval (CI) of 0.79-1.68, suggesting no higher risk. A thoughtful and analytic editorial in the same issue of JAMA by Molbak and colleagues (3) agreed that the bottom line in this issue is not yet known and may relate to the particular strain of O157, the antimicrobial used, and the timing of antimicrobial treatment. ---------------------------------- Regarding the use of antimotility agents, a retrospective analysis of 278 children who developed O157 enteritis during a 1993 outbreak in Washington State USA had an odds ratio of 2.9 with CI 1.2-7.5 (4). In those who did not develop HUS, there was no difference in the median duration of diarrhea among children who received antimotility agents, but the median duration of bloody diarrhea was longer (4 vs. 3 days, p less than 0.05). In another study of 118 _E. coli_ O157 enteritis cases (5), a relative risk of 44.11 was found for those receiving prolonged antimotility agents with CI 8.48-229.4. The proceedings of a recent seminar on this illness, published in March 2005 in The Lancet (6), categorically states that antimicrobial agents, antimotility agents, narcotics (also antimotility), and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (can diminish renal blood flow) should be avoided. _____________________________________________________________ 1. ExSoldier and his wife survived the storm. There is no structural damage to their home; there are a lot of tree branches down.

He is unable to get online for a while. There was major damage to the regional trunk system. The cellular system is dysfunctional as well.

He called me yesterday afternoon during the few minutes that I was out of cell range; my voicemail alert didn't go off until supper tonight.

He thanks everyone for their prayers.

Insurers balk at 'dirty bombs' payouts
Posted on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at 1:09pm
Flights could be grounded across Europe as the result of a growing row
about insurance against terrorist threats. Many leading insurers have
already told airlines that they are going to exclude damage to aircraft
caused by nuclear weapons and so called dirty bombs - chemical
explosives that spread radioactive contaminants - set off by terrorists.
They are now saying they may also refuse to pay out for death or injury
caused to passengers in such an attack.

Middle school student arrested for bringing bomb to school

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- An 11-year-old middle school student was arrested Tuesday after a homemade bomb was found in his backpack.

Newport News police said a school resource officer arrested the Mary Passage Middle School student at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday after finding a device made from a plastic bottle, cleaning fluid and aluminum foil in his backpack.

The Newport News Fire Department disposed of the device.

The student, who is being held in juvenile detention, was charged with possession of a bomb and having a concealed weapon on school property.

Police received a tip Monday night that several people were planning to bring similar devices to school.

Others may face charges as the investigation continues, police said.

OFF TOPIC, FOR ANIMAL LOVERS:

PRIEST INVITES ANIMALS INTO CHURCH

A priest from Suffolk, England, has
revealed he is accompanied
to his church services by a group of animals.
Father Peter MacLeod-Miller, 43, keeps a
donkey, lambs, goats
and alpacas in a paddock at his rectory and takes
them to the church
in Barrow.
Australian-born Father MacLeod-Miller said,
"Animals are central
figures in many Biblical stories. I just find
they can help people
relax and add interest."
According to BBC online he added, "It's
hard to doze off in
church when there's a donkey standing in the
aisle. People seem to
like them."
He keeps two goats, three lambs, three
alpacas, 30 chickens and a
donkey in a paddock at his rectory.
He takes the animals to services at All
Saints Church and uses
them when working in schools and making visits.

Where are they learning to do this???<<<

My first answer -once upon a time- would have been from
Daddy and older brothers.

Today, from a person who wants them to do this, maybe not in the family, a neighbor? a gang member?

From the computer and television.

Looking back on the 11 year old boys, even foster kids, at
11, they were not making bombs.

How many 11 year olds could read and understand the bomb
making instructions on the internet?

They expected several people to bring bombs to school today.

I ORDERED my grandmother to not leave her house on the 29th, the chosen day for halloween this year and the muslim "Night of Determination"...... 10-29-2005 or 19......again.

Where he learned to make bombs, would be interesting, so would his religion.
