The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

That was my response as well. Since when does the Dept. of Homeland Security mistake a TOY for "all the components of an IED"??? Something definitely fishy here... No word on the carrier of the carry-on either.

I can't find any other confirmation of the IED parts being a toy except that one posters mention of what they heard on CBS radio... Perhaps we should reserve though on this till there is some confirmation that it was a "toy". Reuters hasn't updated the story in over an hour...

BREAKING NEWS ALERT: MATERIALS FOUND AT LINDBERGH FIELD ARE FOR TOYS

The commuter terminal at Lindbergh Field has been re-opened Tuesday morning, after baggage screeners found what they thought were bomb-making materials in a piece of carry on luggage.

The commuter terminal was shut down and evacuated around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, after the discovery. But authorities say what were thought to be bomb components were actually components to make toys.

The terminal is now open and flights will continue on schedule.

Just saw that at yahoo news... very interesting to say the least. "Organic material" and a "toy"? Man, WHAT is going on at DHS? How about telling us WHAT the toy was, and what the "organic material" is. Why be so cryptic about it all?

One bit of confusion - was it the screeners who thought it was an IED or was it DHS who said it was an IED?

OK, mini-rant ahead (not directed at you freeperfromnj! (o: ).
First, "all the components of an IED" (which would presumably include EXPLOSIVE material. Then, it's a toy and some organic material. Now, it's components to make toys? How frustrating! C'mon folks this is not that hard... just tell us what exactly was found in the bag. Man, did these journalists and officials actually graduate college?
