The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief
Full Story

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

Interesting post. I would have never thought of that town as a potential target. I've been to Bethlehem, PA - it's a lovely little town to visit during the Christmas season.

Oh hello!!!

Bomb components found at San Diego airport
Tue Oct 25, 2005 5:09 PM BST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Baggage screeners found bomb components in a carry-on piece of luggage at San Diego International Airport on Tuesday and cleared the area to investigate, Department of Homeland Security spokesmen said.

A department spokesman said the screeners found "all components of an IED" (improvised explosive device) in a piece of luggage at around 7:45 a.m. (3:45 p.m. British time).

They then evacuated the commuter terminal of the airport and bomb specialists began to investigate, the spokesman said.

Transportation Security Administration spokesman Nico Melendez said an employee noticed a "suspicious item" in a piece of luggage as it was going through the X-ray machine.

Officials at the airport were not immediately available for comment.

The Homeland Security spokesman said officials were investigating to see if there was any link between the discovery in San Diego and bomb threats at two Los Angeles-area airports.(snip)

Bomb components found at San Diego airport

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Baggage screeners found bomb components in a carry-on piece of luggage at San Diego International Airport on Tuesday and cleared the area to investigate, Department of Homeland Security spokesmen said.

A department spokesman said the screeners found "all components of an IED" (improvised explosive device) in a piece of luggage at around 7:45 a.m. (10:45 a.m. EDT)

The Homeland Security spokesman said officials were investigating to see if there was any link between the discovery in San Diego and bomb threats at two Los Angeles-area airports.

Searches at the Long Beach airport and a separate threat at nearby Orange County's John Wayne airport were resolved with no bombs found.

Melendez said he was unaware of any other incidents at other California airports.

That's just spooky. Hopefully, it was another foiled attempt and there are not others waiting and watching...

Okay, this has my attention....

An IED found on carry-on luggage should have everyone's attention. People tend to forget we are at war these days.

From the other thread:
-----

CBS radio just reported that the "bomb" components were actually a toy, the airport has been reopened.

------

Looks to be another false alarm. How can you confuse bomb components with a toy? Sounds fishy to me.

Amazing. My next post was going to be: How long before the story morphs from "ALL THE COMPONENTS OF AN IED" to something totally different. For once, I'd like the truth so I can decide whether or not I want to get on a plane at this time or whether to give the heads up to family and friends who might be planning to fly.
