Bomb threat delays flights at Long Beach

Oct 25, 2005 — WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A "non-specific, non-credible" bomb threat has delayed flights at the Long Beach Airport in California, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security said on Tuesday.

A separate bomb threat earlier in the day at Orange County airport, also in California, has been resolved, the spokesman said.

Did you see this today in our Times?

Yes, I saw it. Very sad. Latest news is that the SUV driver (who hit the cab and left the scene)did not have a driver's license or insurance.

Can you say....illegal alien?

I'm not sure of the origin or link to the original chart. I posted it at Lucy's request.

I do read it as the title of the chart indicates. Different "views"/opinions of the 3 main religions.

Post #19 deals with the POW's brought here after Gulf War #1, some 12,500 of them.

Interesting reading, most were unknown.

Michigan State is site of new bioterrorism center

Michigan State University is the site of a new center to develop a global strategy for responding to bioterrorism threats and outbreaks of infectious disease.

The $10 million Center for Advancing Microbial Risk Assessment is funded by the U-S Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

Directors will be Dr. Joan Rose, a water microbiologist scientist at Michigan State, and Dr. Charles Hass, a professor of environmental engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia, The Detroit News reported Tuesday.

"We want to make sure that first responders, regulators, policy makers and health care professionals have the tools they need to make decisions quickly when they see the potential for microbial outbreaks," Rose said. "The best way to do that is through early detection and a deeper understanding of how these diseases spread."

Officials announced the center on Monday.

The EPA has identified several threats as needing additional study; they include anthrax, smallpox, botulism, plague, viral hemorrhagic fever and tularemia. The center also will assess risk of exposure to bacteria and viruses in the air, water and soil, and on hard surfaces.

The center will bring together scientists at Michigan State and Drexel, as well as the University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon University, Northern Arizona University, the University of Arizona and the University of California at Berkley.

The center is funded for five years and a university spokeswoman said work has already begun.

"A separate bomb threat earlier in the day at Orange County airport, also in California, has been resolved, the spokesman said."

Resolved, eh? Wow, that was fast - what's the person's name who called in the threat and where are they holding him/her? Oh wait - they mean they've determined the airport to be "safe" right - not that they've actually SOLVED the case! LOL
< /sarcasm >

Too much going on by way of "threats". I think they're trying to lull everyone in to a false sense of security. I hope I'm wrong, but I'll be praying most of the day on the 29th...

Terrorism seminar urges residents to stay alert

Terrorism seminar urges residents to stay alert
State police identify possible targets and warning signs to help prevent attacks.

By Randy Kraft
Of The Morning Call

Remain vigilant to prevent terrorism.

That message was given to nearly 50 residents by state Trooper Daniel Steele during a public terrorism prevention seminar Monday night in Lower Macungie Township's Community Center.

''We're all starting to forget about Sept. 11,'' said Steele, because there have been no terrorist attacks in the United States since then, as well as no known attempts. But he warned terrorists have not given up and ''to police, it's not 'if' but 'where and when.'''

He said potential local terrorist targets include the Lehigh Valley Mall; Lehigh Valley International Airport; Buckeye Pipe Line Co. tank farm — ''anyone who says that's not a target has got to be crazy'' — bridges and overpasses on Interstate 78; popular events such as Bethlehem's Musikfest; and prominent buildings in Allentown.

Other possible targets include schools, hospitals and government buildings, said Steele, community service and public information officer at the Bethlehem barracks.

He thinks a shopping mall will be the next target, because malls have limited security, many access points and many potential casualties. Such an attack would have a tremendous impact, especially before Christmas.

''I keep my eyes and ears open whenever I'm shopping.''(snip)

Thanks for the link, and the earlier google search link RE: Tulsa and Witchita. Sounds like Pettingill made the mayor sound like a fool for suggesting such a thing - he said almost the same thing when all of us out here on the 'net suggested Hinrichs might have had something to do with terrorists as well. Admitting at this point that Al Qaeda has cells in Oklahoma, or Kansas would be equal to admitting extreme failure on the part of the FBI and our national security forces. IMHO, I think that's why they hush everyone who speaks of it...
