The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief
Full Story

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

My apologies for the tardiness, I've not been online much the last few days all4one. Please know you and Domino are in my thoughts and I'm sending you cyber-hugs. I've been giving my dog Strider extra hugs. Our furry family members are special.

This is in the middle of the Great Lakes. Also, the Stan Deyo earthquake warning map site is eyebrow raising for the Mendocino fault.

Each had failed to show up for separate deportation proceedings,
Bastan said. "Technically, they were fugitives," he said. "Their
deportations are just being acted on." <<<<<<<<

There are so many of these, that if I worked there, the forms would already be filled in, all I would need to add is the name and date.

Enough already.

Is this a signal for attacks on sports?

The OK bomb at the stadium and now the hotel where the players are staying.

US can call foreign groups terrorists, court says
Reuters ^

Posted on 10/20/2005 8:47:21 PM PDT by F14 Pilot

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 20 (Reuters) - The United States can designate foreign organizations as terrorist groups and bar Americans from financially backing them, a federal appeals court ruled on Thursday.

"Leaving the determination of whether a group is a 'foreign terrorist organization' to the executive branch ... is both a reasonable and a constitutional way to make such determinations," Judge Andrew Kleinfeld wrote for a three-judge panel.

"The Constitution does not forbid Congress from requiring individuals, whether they agree with the executive branch determination or not, to refrain from furnishing material assistance to designated terrorist organizations."

The ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was made in a case involving people who raised money in California for Mujahedin-e Khalq, or MEK, an Iranian opposition group designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government since 1997.

The defendants argued the MEK was not a terrorist group and they had First Amendment rights to contribute to the group.

The court disagreed, saying contributing money was not the same as exercising a right to free speech. "Guns and bombs are not speech," Judge Kleinfeld wrote.

The 9th Circuit ruling was a rehearing of the same panel's decision in June. Both 9th Circuit decisions overturned a district court's dismissal of the indictment in the case.

The "Committee for Human Rights" had solicited contributions at the Los Angeles International Airport and sent them to the MEK in Turkey.

The Iranian group was formed in the 1960s to overthrow the Iranian government and was involved in taking U.S. Embassy staff in Tehran hostage in 1979. Its members, dissatisfied with the clerical government, later fled Iran, and resettled in Iraq, carrying out attacks with the backing of Saddam Hussein.

The ruling acknowledged geopolitical changes could change the perception about the MEK, but said the U.S. government should be the entity that decides.

"Defendants could be right about the MEK. But that is not for us, or for a jury in defendants' case, to say," the decision read.

"The sometimes subtle analysis of a foreign organization's political program to determine whether it is indeed a terrorist threat to the United States is particularly within the expertise of the State Department and the executive branch."

This link would be off topic. I was looking for the twins names, as I have read the name Mathurin recently.

I wound up at this list of books and articles from the 1800 and 1900's.

Interesting, as it is every subject, early war, travel, geology and history, tried to find a couple by googling them, didn't find them.

It is a list for the history buffs. (or a lifetime google project......laughing)

Cindy, the FR article was pulled, but I found a link to the original article, here are a couple of excerpts:

US, UK teams search quake rubble for Osama Bin Laden

In recent weeks, both MI6 and the CIA have established that Bin Laden has received a portable kidney dialysis machine from China but it requires electricity to power it.

Drones, unmanned aircraft that US Special Forces launched from Afghanistan last week, have reported that the area along the border has lost all power supplies.
---
One Washington terrorism expert, Bruce Hoffman at the Rand Corporation, said that if Bin Laden had managed to escape the earthquake, he might have made his way to the disputed Kashmir region.

There is also the possibility that he could have made his way back to the Toba Kakar Range in Afghanistan. But veteran CIA officer Milt Bearden said: “If Bin Laden is dead, the world will never know.

We just have to wait until somebody drags out his body and says; This is Bin Laden. My bet is that won’t happen.”

I was wondering about that. But then I was also grumbling to myself - that if we let someone who we don't even know their identity be a translator over there (previous smoking gun report) even if we had Bin Laden, we might not know it.

Do we have his DNA somewhere to compare it to a 'body' or remains?

Your report on the man puring out fluid at the hotel, sticks with me.

Odds are that he poured out nothing more than water, but he made the news, did a test run and sure sent a message to all of how easy it will be to act, when ready to do so.

He might have freaked the ball team, and bet heavily on the other side of the game, sure easier than breaking the knees of a ball player as they did in the old days.

I would even accept that it was only to show what a real terrorist would do.

20 years ago, some people wanted guards on the County dump, as it was wide open and anything could be dumped there.

The County was at the time paying a company who said they were guarding the dump.

A man who lived in the country and had to haul his water, in the 5 gallon plastic bottles that are for sale here, tested the dump.

Mac, took a newspaper reporter and went to the dump, he dumped his water supply in the dump and the reporter took half the front page with a perfect photo of Mac doing so.

Mac dumped water, but anything could have been in the containers.

Needless to say the dump is now under lock and key and guarded for real.
