(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA SEPTAs Market East Station was evacuated and service was temporarily suspended Thursday morning while Philadelphia police investigated a suspicious package.
SEPTA and Philadelphia police evacuated the Market East Station around 7:30am after a conductor spotted a man acting suspiciously. The Market East Station was closed and no regional rail lines were running into or out of the station while police investigated the incident.
Police say a man was dressed in camouflage and was carrying a suspicious package. The man was taken into custody was questioned.
According to SEPTA spokesman Felipe Fuarez, "The individual was carrying some sort of bag with him and a scent was picked up by one of our dogs."
While police questioned the man, the Philadelphia Bomb Squad was called in to examine the contents of the package. Around 9 a.m. the bomb squad rendered the scene safe and commuters were allowed back into the station.
The travel disruptions came on the heels of the Thursday night announcement made by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg saying officials there have stepped up mass transit security after receiving a threat that the subway may be the target of a bombing in the coming days.
Homeland Security officials in Washington are downplaying the threat's credibility.
One of the three major transit hubs in Philadelphia is open again after police closed it during the height of morning rush hour.
thanks for finding that all4one!
Plastic bottles, can be used to make pipe bombs, I think.
They also make good bug traps, in the big soda bottles, put 1 inch of beer and a half inch of cooking oil.
Lay on side at an angle, with the lip at ground level, the bugs go in and can't get out, save the lid, as when it is full, you can seal it and put it in the trash.
I see so many bomb links that I posted this morning, that is a lot of bombing, for a country that is a 'peaceful' country.
Who is making/hauling so many bombs in America.
I can't find a second meaning.
I think in this case, it's "Manhattan" for the sake of it being Manhattan as mentioned in bin Laden's speeches and his obsession with New York in general.
****
The following are excerpts from Osama bin Laden's speech on the eve of the 2004 US elections:
Osama bin Laden: Oh the American people, I address these words to you regarding the optimal manner of avoiding another Manhattan, and regarding the war, its causes and its consequences. But before this, I say to you: Security is one of the important pillars of human life, and free men do not take their security lightly, contrary to Bush's claim that we hate freedom. Let him explain why we did not attack Sweden, for example. Clearly, those who hate freedom have no pride, unlike the 19, may Allah have mercy on them. We have been fighting you because we are free men who do not remain silent in the face of injustice. We want to restore our [Islamic] nation's freedom. Just as you violate our security, we violate yours. (snip)

Authorities Shut Down Section Of Penn Station
UPDATED: 10:30 am EDT October 7, 2005
NEW YORK -- As the city coped with news of a terrorist threat, a section of Penn Station was shut down Friday morning as emergency workers in white hazmat suits stood over what appeared to be a red suitcase.
Mike Gallagher, who identified himself as an Amtrak supervisor, said part of the concourse was closed "because of something that was found here." He declined to be more specific.
Police dogs and National Guard members also had been patrolling the transportation hub beneath Madison Square Garden due to heightened security conditions.
"We do have a police situation at Penn Station," said Amtrak spokeswoman Marice Golgoski, who declined to elaborate. "The Amtrak police and the NYPD are involved."
The main entrance at West 33rd Street and Eighth Avenue was closed off with yellow crime scene tape and a portion of the concourse above the tracks was also sealed to the public.
According to Golgoski, Amtrak was still boarding some trains and operating some ticket windows despite the problems. New Jersey Transit and the Long Island Rail Road also operate in and out of the midtown Manhattan facility........

CROWN POINT | Police are holding George Soltis, 58, of Whiting, on probable cause attempted murder charges after Lake County police took him into custody Wednesday evening after he and his wife were involved in a domestic dispute on Cline Avenue.
Soltis had a gun and a bomb in his vehicle, and police called on the Porter County Bomb Squad to locate and detonate explosives in the back seat of the car. The bomb was successfully detonated, and there were no injuries reported during the process, although southbound Cline Avenue, north of Columbus Drive in East Chicago, was closed for several hours during the process.

NYPD Closes Parts of Penn Station for Suspicious Package & More on Yesterday's Threat Report (updated)
Penn Station partially shut down after Amtrak found a suspicious package near the ticket counter - MSNBC reports that 7th Avenue entrance still open but north side of Amtrak platform closed - Fox News reports that entrance at 33rd & 8th closed and portion of concourse above tracks closed and NYPD press conference at 11 am - CNN reports officials in hazmat suits now there - possibly a liquid substance - but Amtrak still boarding passengers.
Yesterday's Threat Report: Fox News also reports that DHS is still dubious about yesterday's threat announcement, but the suspect who was source of threat apparently passed a lie detector test. ABC News reports that the threat source "has identified at least one of the attackers by name and claims that the man already is in the United States" and "one of two Iraq insurgents who were sources for the threat information said when arrested, reportedly in perfect English: 'You f-ing can't stop us now; it's too late.'"

I see nothing on the cables about this. Blackout?? I keep thinking of the meeting with then DHS Secy Ridge and the heads of the networks a few years ago.
Who is making/hauling so many bombs in America.
Well, it's NOT the Buddhist monks.
FOX, CNN and MSNBC are all reporting on this.
Just in, the captured scumbag who spilled the beans passed a lie detector test.
Bears repeating with highlights:
>>>the threat source "has identified at least one of the attackers by name and claims that the man already is in the United States" and "one of two Iraq insurgents who were sources for the threat information said when arrested, REPORTEDLY IN PERFECT ENGLISH: 'You f-ing can't stop us now; it's too late.'"<<<
Ok, I see it now. Have to admit I was watching fashion day on QVC. :(
