A county courthouse was evacuated Thursday after officials said they found a possible explosive device -- one brought in by an attorney.
Officials said the item brought into the Carroll County Courthouse in Berryville was an undetonated firecracker that Cindy Baker intended to enter as evidence in a trial.

"Your Honor, I'd like to make a small demonstration..."
A small detonation!!! Oh, you said demonstration.....
Cost of a firecracker: $8.95.
Cost of seeing an attorney blow herself and her client up: Priceless.
Absolutely ridiculous. Even the French are going to start snickering at us if we don't snap out of it. Very disappointed in the bomb squad speaking that PC doubletalk.
You gotta wonder what they're thinking when the pull the alarm switch, "This is so stupid but if I don't follow procedure its my @%%." Or something along that line. The days of ingenuity, rugged individualism, and gumption are being litigated right out of our system. This is one reason I want to scream every time some political or judge wants to make us more like the civilized europeans.
where the hell do you by your firecrackers?
Actually, a firecracker can be used as a detonator (think blasting cap) for many different explosives including a few that would get by bomb sniffer dogs.
Sorry, should have meant firecrackers plural, lol!
lol.... I was wondering if West Virginia firecrackers had "skyrocketed"
Sort of remindes me of the time a certain Fire Department doen in our State Capitol closed a street, called a hazmat team, did an emergency washdown of firemen and rushed them to the hospital in containment suits. Why? It was the first time they ever saw an airbag deploy at a car accident and they were scared to death of the white powder. (Note: This was Pre 9/11).
Cops laughed thier asses off at the fire chief. He eventually quit.
I'm not sure what explosives you are referring too but I think most require a high explosive with much more energy than a fircracker could provide.
Another example of mindless obedience to rules. Zero tolerance = zero thought required.
These guys' intelligence went to the pawnshop a long time ago.
Things were different then. I wouldn't have dreamed of touching it.
And they lost the pawn ticket.
The family farm (my grandmother's) always had a supply of dynamite and blasting caps on hand for removing stumps and loosening large rocks in the fields. I got to practice, sometimes by cutting sticks in quarters and in half, to see what it took for various things. I didn't get quite the thrill of firecrackers from using dynamite.
We have institutionalized hysteria....
Too many she men running things.....
You ain't too bright....and probably shouldn't be in the police court security business
imo
Powdered polar bear?
