SACRAMENTO - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger followed through Thursday on his promise to veto a bill to legalize gay marriage in California, saying the issue should be decided by voters or the courts.

“This bill simply adds confusion to a constitutional issue,” the Republican governor said in a veto message. “If the ban of same-sex marriage is unconstitutional this bill is not necessary. If the ban is constitutional this bill is ineffective.”

The GLBT Lobby has greater rights here than in any other state but that's not enough for them.

But wait! There's more!

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed his first major gay rights legislation on Monday, requiring insurance companies to provide coverage to registered domestic partners.

AB 2208, sponsored by Assemblywoman Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego, will compel insurance companies to treat domestic partners the same as married spouses for health, life, auto, renters and homeowners insurance policies. Before, insurers were only required to offer domestic partners coverage equivalent to a dependent.

I just heard Savage make a complete ass of himself interpreting the citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment. I've sent him the case law and the references to the Congressional Globe in 1866 showing that the original intent of the 14th Amendment was to DENY citizenship to children of foreigners born in the US, and he still babbles this crap.

Savage is sometimes a pompous idiot.

He mentioned earlier he may change his mind and run for Congre$$,, sounds like he's fully prepared and would fit right in.

I just switched to the Sean and RINO interview show for a bit.

On the plus side, he also vetoed 2 minimum wage bills.
I'm still looking at today's list of 99.

No surprise. This, another instance of his keeping his word and his endorsement of "parental notification for abortion" (Prop 73) still won't please some people around here.

The courts always get their way here and it's already on their plate. However, there's ALREADY an initiative petition circulating to amend the state constitution to define marriage and eliminate the equivalent under other titles.

People For The American Way Says Gov. Schwarzenegger's Veto of Marriage Equality Is A Blow To Basic Rights

To: State Desk

Contact: Amanda Crumley of PFAW, 310-385-4192 or 703-371-5596 (cell)

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 29 /U.S. Newswire/ -- People For the American Way (PFAW) issued the following statement upon Gov. Schwarzenegger's veto of AB 849, legislation that would have made California the first state to enact marriage equality:

"We are extremely disappointed the Governor has chosen to ignore the will of the people and instead keep discrimination on the books in California," said PFAW Western Region Executive Director Jeff Berman. "Instead of being a 'Last Action Hero' for fairness and basic rights, the Governor has endorsed discrimination against gays and lesbians."
