Knotts served in WW2 as an entertainer and recieved the Victory Medal.

I'm just repeating what I heard from two Marine captains who presented a list of "famous Marines" to their Army class ates at Ft. McClellan.

I figured they would know far better than I, but Google seems to confirm your info.
