Just remember that your statement is only legitimate if the actors pay for all externalities associated with their behavior. To the extent everyone pays for their "rights" to drive low mileage vehicles by having to support Mid-East military excursions (think Iraq at $300 Billion so far) to keep the oil flowing, then this is not occuring.
Consider if the question is narcotics use. I'm all for freedom to ingest what you want, but I'm not for paying for a person's drugs, food, shelter, or any of the same for their neglected kids - thus, I am very much against legalization (and would prefer draconian penalties).
By that standard, no one can do anything...one cannot even go to the bathroom without imposing "externalities."
As often happens when people argue with me, you editorialised my statements into something I didn't say.
I never said that people can engage in illegal activity.
