Saudi Prince Buys Large Share of Fox News 16:55 Sep 25, '05 / 21 Elul 5765
(IsraelNN.com) Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal has purchased 5.46 percent of the Fox corporation, according to Gulf Daily News, raising concern that the conservative Fox News may soften its anti-terror stance due to the views of the new shareholder.
Al-Waleed, the nephew of the late Saudi King Fahd, was in the news when he visited the World Trade Center's remains just after the September 11th attacks and offered then-New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani a $10 million check for relief efforts. Al-Waleed then released a statement blaming US foreign policy and support for Israel for the attacks.
Giuliani returned the prince's check with a statement that, "There is no moral equivalent for this attack. The people who did it lost any right to ask for justification when they slaughtered . . . innocent people ... Not only are those statements wrong, they're part of the problem."
I gave up on Fox when they were still sniffing Michael Jackson's underwear 90 minutes into the breaking news that Saddam Hussein had been captured.
Free Orange Julius? Where?
Thanks for info and feedback. It looks like Murdoch has a financial "ally" in the Saudi Prince , re: staving off a hostile takeover from Liberty Media----or at least that's the way they "make sense of it" to us peons who can't afford ONE BILLION DOLLARS worth of investment. I still believe there's the essential factor of creating good PR lurking somewhere in the background---and as pro- WOT and anti-Islamic terrorist as FOX may purport to be, so also does the official voice of Saudi Arabia, though we know just how hypocritical that is. So I expect virtually NO direct criticism from FOX or its star commentators against Saudi Arabia, though O'Reilly probably already has blasted the "kingdom".
Yes, Larry the Cable is a must-have for any line-up like that.....and ah don' care who ya are, that's funny raht there......
That's got to be the best pun I've read...uh....today.
If I were to purchase 5.46% of the shares of NewsCorp, do you think I would have any influence on the company? The company is far larger than just Fox News. I suspect this article is really about trying to torpedo the successful news channel.
How do you figure? If the Saudi Prince dumps his stock, and Murdoch holds on to his, Murdoch still owns the company. In fact, Murdoch himself might very well be the one to snatch up the shares being dumped.
Call your Congressman and tell them NO!

ENHANCE UNDERSTANDING: Urge U.S. Representatives to Sign 2005 Ramadan Resolution
Ramadan is expected to begin soon, and a resolution acknowledging Muslims is circulating in the U.S. House of Representatives. A resolution expresses the opinion of Congress on an issue, but is not law.
This resolution is an important tool for encouraging dialogue between Muslims and their elected officials, as well as enhancing understanding of the Islamic faith.
After reading the resolution, enter your zip code and call your Representative. Ask him or her to sign the resolution.
Full Text of Resolution Recognizing the Commencement of Ramadan
Recognizing the commencement of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal, and commending Muslims in the United States and throughout the world for their faith.
Whereas since the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, threats and incidents of violence have been directed at law-abiding, patriotic Americans of African, Arab, and South Asian descent, particularly members of the Islamic faith;
Whereas on September 14, 2001, the House of Representatives passed a concurrent resolution condemning bigotry and violence against Arab-Americans, American Muslims, and Americans from South Asia in the wake of the terrorist attacks in New York, New York, and Washington, D.C.;
Whereas it is estimated that there are approximately 1,500,000,000 Muslims worldwide;
Whereas Ramadan is the holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal for Muslims worldwide, and is the 9th month of the Muslim calendar year; and
Whereas the observance of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan commences at dusk on October 15*, 2005, and continues for one lunar month: Now, therefore, be it

Millions of shares going on the market would invariably lower the price -- supply/demand. The company becomes worth less than it did when the stock price was high.
Common misconception. The temporarily decreased value of the stock only affects the stockholder if he is stupid enough to sell at the low price. I don't think Rupert Murdoch would be affected, as he would know better than to dump his holdings after someone tried to dump stock in his company.
That's assuming the stock price eventually bounces back to pre-dumping levels. In murdoch's case, it probably would bounce back, given the in-roads he's made with China.
True. But if you look at the source of this article, there is an obvious paranoia about a Saudi purchasing stock in NewsCorp. Would they have said the same thing if George Soros had made the purchase? Ted Turner? I suspect that the real reason for the article was the fact that it was a Saudi. Quite frankly, there are other stocks that make better investments, so I question the wisdom of the investor here.
This is ANOTHER "news alert" !
This explains the changes in FOX "news" coverage that are more fluff cr*p almost identical to the aplphabet netwoorks.
"Oh, no, he's got a stake in Priceline? Gee, does that mean William Shatner's going to have to wear a ghutrah?"
I doubt he could find one that matched with his yarmulke. :)
Foreigners should be prevented from buying shares in U.S. news agencies and certain other industries.
Suppose these Wahhabist bought controlling shares of manufacturers of military equipment?
Western Civilization, the product of 2,000 years of progress - leaving behind things like the Inquistion, the Star Chamber, etc, is slowly withering on the vine, dying in an assault by tribes of desert brigands who would erase all those years of political, social and religious advancement and pull us back into the dark ages.
Owning anything less than Murdoch's share renders your influence to zero.
But the Shiek apparently recognizes a profitable venture when he sees one.
Oh it's the end of the world as we know it!!!!
I'm never watching Fox again (do you watch Fox now? No, but if I did I'd not watch it anymore!)
Looks like the Saudi's weren't too happy about their princes lifestyle's being broadcast on FOX a year or two back.....
