LOS ANGELES Thomas Ross Bond, who played Butch the bully in the "Our Gang" comedies of the 1930s and 40s, has died.
He was 79.
His manager says Bond died this afternoon at Northridge Hospital from complications of heart disease.
Bond appeared in some 40 movies in the "Our Gang" and "Little Rascals" serials. He originally played one of the gang under the name Tommy but went on to the role of the bully who torments Alfalfa and the other kids.
Bond also played Jimmy Olsen in two Superman movies in the 1940s and appeared as Joey Pepper in several installments of the "Five Little Peppers" serial.
He retired from acting in 1951 and held various TV production and directing jobs before retiring from a Fresno TV station in 1991.
Services are pending.

While I'm saddened by his death, I'm also a bit surprised. I wasn't aware that any of the Rascals were still alive.

I still would'nt mess with Butch! A great rascal. Of course Mickie and Jackie are still 'round.
I just saw some old Jackie Cooper and Wallace Berry movies last week on TCM. I love Wallace Berry, "The Champ".

Tommy Bond made a great Jimmy Olsen - more tough than the "aw gee whiz" type that Jack Larson played on the TV show.
I'm just disappointed he never got a chance to play Giant Turtle Olsen...

We've been searching for clean alternatives to television for our children for family-at-home evenings.
So far their favorite is Abbott and Costello (we showed them A&C Meet Frankenstein just the other night.) Little Rascasl is high on the list, too. It's also a great to constrast the "now and then" with the children. They are at the age where the "Whys" and "How comes" come flying.
Good wholesome fun though. I just don't trust most (OK, ALL) of the garbage they have on TV today.
