"I will have to use a similar material on the mecha's cockpits in my novel." We've converted the glass production facility in the lower levels under the castle over to Aluminum OxyNitride.
The trick is to polish while it is still hot from the furnace. We need it for the enclosure domes, and for the canopies of the shuttle/thrusters. (We had an analytical treatise about two thousand posts ago.)
