QUOTE " Problem number 1, people dont listen."
You really dont know what you are talking about. These people who " evacuated" were forced outa their homes by a very slick and organized media blitz that focused on their fears and ignorance. The mantra here in Houston for 4 days prior to landfall was " get outa town or you'll die." Well, 1.8 million did just that and many more died on the road than did here in Houston. As a matter of fact, I haven't heard yet that any ones' death has been blamed on the storm. Most of them are very angry because they now know that they were duped and used in a political shell game called " cover your ass."

You bet they are coming home and mad as hell. They are outa patience and outa money. Let's see if they get a FEMA card worth 2k.though I seriously doubt it, most of them are white."

Give me a break. They don't deserve a FEMA Card. If they don't have damage. They left because a POWERFUL hurricane WAS forecast to hit their location. That track path changed the day of or right before the day of the strike. It was a gamble - it was a forecast not a promise that a hurricane would hit them. That is the nature of the beast. HAD Rita hit Galvestion and Houston as a Cat 3 or 4 hurricane then many people would have died. Had the government not asked people to leave then you would be complaining about that.

They were ASKED To leave and they were NOT forced to leave. Your argument assumes that people can't think for themselves. That doesn't sound much like a freeper but more like well the others.

The government doesn't owe these people anything.

You obviously don't understand the nature of disasters. People die. Forecasts for wrong. You take shelter when you believe you need to take shelter. Things don't always work out the way they are predicted.

Geesh

FoxNews had on President of New Iberia (?) Parish just before 7:00 a.m. EDT . . . live by telephone . . . he describes "worst case scenario" for his area . . . hundreds of homes "under water" . . . 200 rescues yesterday, but had to be suspended due to winds . . . many still "out there" . . . thought they could ride it out, but "you can't ride this out" . . .

And, of course, Fox now back to covering useless traffic situation in Texas! Ignoring the life and death drama unfolding along the LA coast!!!

Coastal Louisiana in Rita is now the MSM's post-Katrina Mississippi - "oh yeah, something real bad happened over there, but here in Houston, let's go live traffic to our traffic cams . . ."

Look at post 1387 and ponder what would have happened if Rita had taken a last minute jog to the left just as Katrina did to the right.

I agree the fedgov.com does not owe them anything. Nonetheless where will the line be drawn? Sheila lee is already whining about who is going to pay the people for gas money and stuff.

Once the gov gives certain people money to rebuild their lives as in 9/11 and now Katrina, everyone will expect a handout. Many will say your disaster wasnt anything like Katrina and 9/11. But for those in the middle of any disaster its a "10" in their book and they will think their lives and their families well being just as important.

" The track path changed the day of or right before the day of the strike...."

Wrong. The track path changed late wed. night from Matagorda to Freeport and continued to change all day thurs. But, you wouldn't have known that if you just watched the local Houston weather guys. And that is my point. You need accurate info. if you are gonna make an informed decision. I got that info. from 3 sources; Max Mayfield, NOAA Website and MSNBC, not the local channels. As late as friday afternoon, CBS and ABC here in Houston were still saying Rita was just as likely to come up the Ship Channel. That was nonsense! Only NBC was by then giving more accurate forecast info.

" They were asked to leave, they were not forced to leave...Your argument assumes that people cant think for themselves "

Wrong again.I live in Clear Lake, an area that would have been devastated by a Cat 4 up the Ship Channel. The Mayors Alert Message rang at my house three times starting on tues. and on thurs. nite woke me up just after midnite. ALL 3 local TV stations were INTENT upon scaring the living shit out of people all the way through thurs. nite. After that, they starting advising people to " Hunker Down " and " Shelter in Place." You need the best and most current data to make an informed decision in a situation like this. The local media DID NOT GIVE IT to us. I've been in lots of disaster situations and it is usually 2 things that cause people to die, panic and the wrong information. People paniced here ( lots of them called me ) and hit the road when they didn't have to. I believe the death toll from the Evac now stands at 31. So far, I haven't heard of anyone in the Houston area being killed by Rita.
