I keep losing my internet connection, but I kept my roof, all my windows, and my electricity. Once I clean out the pool and find some gasoline, I'm good to go.

This is the third time I've tried to reply but lost power before hitting the Post button. We are OK and very, VERY appreciative of the support and prayers sent our way. I'm going to hit the button now and try to continue in another post.
Checking in!!!! Sorry for being so late, but I lost power from 9pm last night and just got it back about 30 minutes ago. No exciting stories, though. Besides the power going out, it was for the most part uneventful. Windy, but not horribly so, and not so much rain, either. I slept through it for the most part, and never felt alarmed or anxious. I feel really, really, lucky. No great hardship, I am just worried about those to the east and trying to catch up on what is happening with them.
The power just came back on here. All the subdivisions around mine had juice, but mine was out for 12.5 hours. It got to 87 degrees in the house even with all the windows and doors open.
I had no structural damage whatsoever. Very little rain. Tree limbs are down all over the place.
I saw on the battery powered TV that my area of town in Galveston is completely intact. No damage, no flooding.
We west-siders really got lucky.
Benji is a mess because he's been munching ice, then wiping his snout in the grass/dirt to get the water off his fur.
Good puppy.
Officials are requesting that those west of I-45 and south of I-10, which includes Mo City, should return home on Monday. There will be no school on Monday in FBISD, but school is supposed to resume on Tuesday. Officials are urging employers to be lenient with the return of their workers.

There was a Tornado Warning scheduled to hit Alexandria at 1:30 am CDT. Fortunately, all of you were here with prayers and support and the next thing I knew, the Tornado Warning had been called off.
When a call came in on my cell phone and woke me up around 7:30 am, I was almost feeling sheepish for spending so much money yesterday on emergency provisions. As if on cue, though, the power went out and I chuckled as we watched our battery-operated TV and gobbled Klondike bars for breakfast. Every time the power came back, I tried to post here, but it would cut out again in the midst of my pontificating, LOL!
But before I go, I have to share a neat survivalist discovery with you, which I will also post on the Live thread, so pardon the repetition...
Just before the hurricane, I went shopping in the coffee aisle at Kroger and found these Wolfgang Puck flavored lattes in individual self-heating cans. They're really neat. You flip the can over on the bottom, pull back the the pop-top ring, and push a button which causes some sort of chemical reaction that heats the can to 140 degrees in 6-8 minutes. Then you turn the can right-side up and there's another flip-top ring ....
Made it thru fine. Not a lot of rain nor wind, but it tore down my drive thru gate into the back yard. Squirrels are all having a field day harvesting all my pecans that are all over the yard. Only a lot of small limbs down. Still a lot of nuts left on the trees though. Wind didn't faze my Satsuma though.
Wife wouldn't let me water before the storm. Looks like I'll have too now.
So glad to hear the Freeplet and the dogs are all okay! And that your house is basically intact on westbank of N.O., and that you weathered Rita and electricity is back on.

John316: They are asking people to return in a staggered fashion. This is because gasoline is extremely scarce, power and water availability, and the traffic problems that would ensue. They have divided the area into quadrants, with the dividing lines at I-10 from east to west and I-45 from north to south. The first group to return will be the northwest quadrant and that is to be tomorrow. The second group (sourthwest quadrant) will be Monday. They are telling those on the east side of 45 to stay put for now. They want to make sure that when you get home, you can get the necessities, like gasoline, etc. School has been cancelled in your area at least on Monday / Tuesday, and maybe longer. They are also asking employers to be lenient with the return of their workers.

Lights just came back on in Spring Branch - after around 10 hours. Went out around 6 am. Part of our fence blew down, and some limbs on the tree, but that's it. We are very thankful. Grateful about Galveston as well - niece in medical school down there was very worried she would have no school to come back to.
