Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VII
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 8:01:35 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.

MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.

An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.

On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.

Godspeed to all those in the path of this storm.

Big time bad.

There is no Lake Charles County. The city of Lake Charles, LA is in Calcasieu Parish.

This might turn out to be a lucky break for Houston if there's no damage, but the evacuation forced the NOLA evacuees to go elsewhere.

I'm an evil bustard, but I thought of that very early on when I heard we were evacuating them first. p.s. If someone is evacuated once, and then they get evac'd again from the first place to somewhere else, THEN can we rightly call them refurgees?

Where are you?

I am in my living room. I have been preparing for days. I have my food stocks, water supply, a Jeep full of gas, flashlights, oil lamps and candles throughout the house, the shotgun nearby, my inverter ready to get a little power off my Jeep. . . Please, do not think I do not take this seriously.

KPLC: Eye-wall warning = giant F-2 tornado on the ground - for 2 counties! Reality check.

This is why we're in San Antonio. It was a Cat 5 aimed directly at us. To stay for that is suicide. It will end up 200 miles east of us BUT a tick west and we'd be going home to....
