Of course the levees are breached. You could see it from the video on fox. It was obvious that is was not just over topping. Besides how long can an earthen dam be over topped before it falls apart. NOT LONG.

I can't tell from the video that anything more than a foot deep flow is going over the top - if you can read a deeper flow into the images, then you are clearly more skilled than I am.

I agree completely, if the levee is earthen with no hard covering, it is stupid to refer to what is happening as "overtopping and no structural change yet," which is precisely what the Corp of Engineers called it.

You can't see it in the pictures posted here, but It really looked more obvious from some video they ran about an hour ago.

They really need to use concretee to build these levee's.

I keep having people tell me about how the federal government failed to strengthen these levee's. (It is all Bush's fault...blah blah!)My response is that it is the reponsiblity of NO and LA to build there own levees if they want to live there. IMHO.

One of the earlier large breaks that flooded NO was filled and backfilled with graded fill and stone. It was filled in depth, making the levee much thicker than it was originally. If this is overflowing, it should resist erosion pretty well. Anyone know if it's one of the earlier breaks?
