Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VI
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 9:39:06 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Dangerous Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall in the northeast Gulf of Mexico within 24 hours. Tornados have spawned in Louisiana. Water is filling the Ninth Ward of New Orleans again. A bus carrying elderly evacuees was gutted by fire this morning outside Dallas, with multiple fatalities. Television crews have positioned their hurricane reporters throughout the region to attain maximum drama effects. Whoooooa.

so am I. but I think the dye is cast politically on this. Bush should never have "taken the blame" - because now the level of compassion is measured by the size of the check. these two LA cretins request 250 billion, even though they have no idea what to spend it on - so anyone who proposes less is deemed "uncaring" and "miserly". we should have been fighting back against Blanco from the first day.

Hang in there, Nederland!
Some of my choice petroleum engineers hang out around there.
They are very good, not very cheap.

A stalled or slow storm is not a good thing. That's when they gain strength - at least that's what I've heard.

I'm a retired math teacher - hence the name. Of all my students, the boys, if good, were great (several 100 averages), but girls usually worked harder, or hardly at all. I agree completely about spelling - so many guys don't seem to care.

Please guys - no flame suit on.

Here's an interesting site I found. You may have already seen this.

My only hesitation is that our Lt. Governor is Mitch Landrieu....Mary's brother. I will have to research it more.....
Thanks for the link though!

Ya think? I just wonder if it's not media/left pressure. People aren't going to go hungry over night. The astrodome empty. right?

I think it was in Beaumont they said they had moved all their prisoners out before the storm so they had 450 beds or something all ready for anybody that wanted to get in trouble.

Maybe so - I just remember that the big issue was they had no supplies for the ones there.

I agree with you. Bush should not have taken the blame on Katrina. He is too passive. I'd like to see him start fighting back. In fact, I wish he had poked that obnoxious David Gregory in the nose.

Do you have to place a Lone Star Beer in their hand??

If you leave them on their back, beside the road, it is a requirement.

See? Proof that I grew up in Texas.... I knew the answer! : )

last words of my previous post:

"decreases below 60m"

should actually intimate: water depth less than 60m. What I mean by this, the storm should maintain intensity at FL and increase its surface/FL ratio (e.g. from my advocated 0.73, progressively and incremently with respect to time, to the NHC's 0.91 limit - according to the definition of limit understood by those having comprehension of calculus), until the water depth becomes less than 60m.

Do you recall what the last readings were? I remember winds less than 121K . . . I think.

Shep thinks Port Arthur won't flood according to Geraldo. WTF? I thought they were going to bear a major brunt of the storm.
