It's been four years of bad news for flight attendants.
First, 9/11 happened. Then, they were laid off. With airline bankruptcies like Northwest's, they are being laid off again.
Now, in another blow, the movie, "Flight Plan," is hitting theaters, tomorrow. Starring Jodie Foster, it's an outrageous piece of propaganda and incredible display of the irresponsible.
I'm embarrassed to say that a very distant cousin of mine--Charles J.D. Schlissel--is executive producer of this outrage. The J.D. must stand for "Just Despicable." If you're a freedom-loving American like me, the rotten tricks of this movie will disgust you.
If you want to sicken yourself and see "Flight Plan," stop reading here. But if you want to save ten bucks, keep going.
SPOILER ALERT
Throughout "Flight Plan," we are given hints--very strong hints--that four Muslim Arabs are the terrorists on the plane. But in the end--breaking a cardinal rule of thrillers--the hints have no pay-off.
Instead, the terrorists are the flight's air marshal and a flight attendant.
That is an outrage for a number of reasons. Two of those reasons are Betty Ong and Madeleine Amy Sweeney. Both were among the many flight attendants who gave their lives on 9/11.
They weren't terrorists. They were American heroes. Instead of calling their families to say good-bye, they contacted ground crews and identified the hijackers. It was because of them that authorities were able to identify Mohammad Atta and his 18 thugs as Al Qaeda.
Other flight attendants were brutally murdered by the hijackers, who slit their throats.
And now Jodie Foster and Charles J. D. Schlissel have the chutzpah to portray these low-paid workers as terrorists?!
Sickening. . . .

That may well be true. It only got two stars in the Philly Inquirer. But I've seen other bad movies.
Then again, I won't see it til it comes out on DVD anyway! I have three kids and would rather be with them then at the movies.
Sorry, my netnanny does that sometimes. Here's what that blank was supposed to be:

Let's see who gets blown out of the sky first.
Reminds me of another Hollyweird religion of evil buttkisser, "The Sum Of All Fears". A Tom Clancy novel about mooselimb terrorists with a nuke remade into evil whitey with a nuke.

THANKS!
This is the wonder of FR.
anyone who has doubts can now easily save themselves 15 bucks.
Hmm, tell that to R Lee Ermy: http://www.rleeermey.com/sounds/armedresponse.wav
Tom Flocco is the DUmmies favorite tinfoil hat barking moonbat.
Okay, it's not much of a story and has no input to this thread, but hey, it's all I have <G>
Yep, PANIC ROOM takes to the skies. Never understood PANIC ROOM.... thought the home could have been much better defended with a couple of Remington 870s. Of course you couldn't have - horror! - GUNS!
Reason 3214123551235 why I haven't seen any Hellywood movies in years. Except for "The Passion of the Christ", I haven't gone to a movie theater in years. Hellywood produces only various kinds of trash. If I want to see a movie, I'll turn on the American Movie Classics channel on cable. Forget the rest of the "movie" channels.
No, it stands as I first typed it.
Insightful commentary. I'll have to send this to Tammy Bruce and Al Rantel.
Let's not forget John Ford, who served in the Navy in both world wars, Humphrey Bogart was in the Navy in WWI, and Walter Brennan in the AEF of the US Army in WWI.
Also, there are other vets in Hollyweird:
Don Adams ("Maxwell Smart"), USMC
Sinbad (Comedian), USAF missle maintenance technician
Sherman Hemsley ("George Jefferson"), USAF
Larry Hagman ("Maj. Nelson"), actually did serve in the USAF
Johnny Cash, SSGT USAF
Jerry Reed, USAF
Mel Tillis, USAF
George "Goober" Lindsey, USAF
"Tennessee" Ernie Ford, bombardier on B-29s, USAF
Lesser names include Tim Holt (B westerns and some A pictures), B-29 navigator, USAF
Wayne Morris (Warner Brothers contract player, and later B western actor....career derailed because of wartime service) F6F "Hellcat" pilot, 5 kills, USN
Lee Powell (the first "Lone Ranger" in a 1938 serial), USMC...killed on Saipan
And familiar names include DeForrest Kelley ("Dr. McCoy" on "Star Trek"), USAF
Leonard Nimoy, US Army
David Janssen, US Army
Lee Van Cleef, US Navy
Don Rickles, US Navy
Chuck Norris, USAF
There are quite a few veterans in Hollyweird....the shame is there just aren't as many as there used to be.
I think we ought to *spoil* it--find a way to publicize the ending.
As to the movie review, I find it difficult to believe that flight attendants and air marshals are being intentionally vilified. It sounds like Ms. Schlussel laced her coffee with amphetamines before writing this.
I find it hard to believe, too. There's a difference between having a villan who happens to be a flight attendant and slandering flight attendants as a group. I also dispute the notion that flight attendants are somehow a new "protected class" just because some died heroically.
I think hatred of Hollywood is getting too much for some people to maintain a sense of perspective.
"One of the things that strikes me and it's very peculiar, is in Hollywood meetings among top executives, people will talk like stevedores. I don't think there is any other business in the country, with women present, in very public meetings, where people will be "F"ing this and "F"ing that...They idea that, "Well, we may drive in limousines and have big houses in the hills, but we are really people of the street. We are in solidarity with the proletariat. We are ordinary folks"."
Michael Medved
Talking like the people? If someone came to my working class parish and spoke like these garbage-mouthed Hollywood types around women and children, they wouldn't get out of the parking lot. Mouth, meet fist, fist shut mouth.
I stopped giving my money to Hollywood after 9/11. No regrets. I can't look at these actors without seeing them supporting terror, trashing our country, and demeaning our history and values.
