{Dog Gone is}West, out I-10 around the Katy area. He'll be okay if it hits around Beaumont.

Thanks for replying. I'm riding it out in the area of 290 and Barker Cypress and it made me a bit nervous that his entire neighborhood had evacuated. (Mine hasn't)
SG, we are still here. All of the men are finishing up the final preparations. It's hard to resist the temptaion to get the heck out of Dodge, but we are hunkering down here.
You'll be okay too with a Beaumont landfall...you should expect, pounding wind and flying things from the north.
I'm in Sugar Land, and my neighborhood hasn't evacuated, either. There aren't too many people out and about, however. Just saw on TV that, if the current forecast holds, we should expect winds of 60 - 70 mph.

You will be fine Sooner Girl. So will Dog Gone. Folks from Katy did not need to evacuate. They will be safe, even if the eye goes over them. (Trust me on that one. I rode out Alicia in SE Friendswood.)
Unless people are in an area that could flood, people should stay put. I left because I live in League City. Had I been in say, northern Pearland or Sugarland I would have stayed. Had my kid brother still had his apartment in Upper Kirby (just north of I-59, inside the loop) I would have evacuated there.
Too many people that do not have to evacuate are leaving, clogging roads that those that need to evacuate need, burning gas they do not need to burn, and spending a lot of money unnecessarily. But the hurricane porn that the news networks are spewing are panicking people.
I don't blame White, Perry, or Bush for the gridlock. Had only those that needed to evacuate left, then things would have been fine.
I walked around the streets in my subdivision last night. I'd say it's 80% evacuated. There are few people walking around this morning. Why, I'm not sure. I realize they're conserving gasoline, but nothing is open. Phone service is spotty. I guess it's just because it's a surreal scene. No cars on the road, no nuthin'.
Heck, I didn't even get my Houston Chronicle delivered today, and I'm willing to be a nickel that I won't get it delivered tomorrow morning, either! ;-)
